Our Electrical Installation students recently visited the Shore Group Construction/YMCA project in Wimbledon, gaining valuable insight into a live commercial construction site. From learning about the importance of PPE to seeing electrical hubs and riser installations up close, the visit brought classroom learning to life.

Students were also excited to hear about Shore Group's apprenticeship opportunities, asking plenty of questions about future career pathways. A big thank you to the Shore Group team for providing such an informative and inspiring experience.

BTEC Business students showcased their skills with excellent, well-researched presentations as part of a live brief from REED Recruitment. They designed interview methods, created tailored questions and developed model answers using their own experiences.

Each group explored key topics such as what makes a strong interviewer or interviewee, how to prepare for interviews and best practice techniques - demonstrating confidence, professionalism and real-world understanding throughout.

A former student has completed her Fine Art degree at Kingston University and marked the milestone by inviting the tutor who first helped her walk into the classroom to attend her final degree show. Molly, who began on Level 2 Art and Design before progressing to BTEC Level 3 Art and Design, reflected on how severe anxiety had kept her out of education for several years. In a heartfelt message to tutor Hayley Baker, she shared: “On one of the first days I started college you encouraged me into class and if you hadn’t been there that day I don’t think I’d be finishing my fine art degree this year. I’m extremely grateful.”

A multimedia artist working across textiles, painting, glass, printmaking and digital media, Molly’s creative practice explores themes of care, identity and sensory experience. Attending the degree show, Hayley described the reunion as a powerful reminder of the impact education can have: “Seeing Molly complete her Fine Art degree – from that anxious young person who could barely walk into a classroom to the confident artist standing proudly beside her work today – is something I will never forget. Moments like this remind me why teaching is such a privilege.”

The Committee of South London Principals (COSLP) Best Learner and Teacher Awards took place at the House of Lords on Tuesday 19 May 2026, celebrating outstanding achievement across South London. Kingston College is proud to recognise Business student Karim, who won Best Student for his exceptional dedication and positive attitude. With 100% attendance, he consistently approaches learning with enthusiasm, with his citation noting, “Karim is an outstanding learner whose dedication and positivity have made a significant impact throughout the year.” Respected by staff and peers alike, he actively contributes in class, produces high-quality work and is described as “a role model of commitment, resilience and positivity.”

Also honoured was Karim’s tutor, Christine Gnanayutham, who received Best Teacher for her transformative impact in the classroom. Praised as “an exceptional educator whose dedication, creativity and care consistently elevate the learning experience for every student,” she creates an inclusive environment where learners feel confident and supported. Christine not only inspires her students but also supports colleagues, “willingly sharing resources, offering thoughtful guidance and contributing positively to the wider team with generosity and professionalism.”

We are incredibly proud of a group of outstanding ESOL and Access to HE learners who were recognised at the Kingston Rotary Adult Achievement Awards earlier this month. Held at the Guildhall and attended by the Mayor of Kingston upon Thames, the event celebrated the determination, resilience and success of adult learners who have overcome significant challenges to achieve their goals.
