A fantastic evening at the inaugural FBSS Summer VIP Event! ๐
Hosted by Kingston Business School and the School of Law, Social and Behavioural Sciences (FBSS) at the award winning Townhouse building, this special event brought together over 130 alumni, industry leaders, guest speakers, and placement providers to celebrate the incredible contributions theyโve made to our student community. ๐
The event wasnโt just a celebration โ it was also a space for collaboration, reflection, and forward-thinking. Conversations throughout the evening helped our staff gain valuable insights into the current job market, while our guests left with a deeper understanding of what students need from universities today. ๐ผ
It was also a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with colleagues across both schools, meet guest speakers and panellists from previous student experience events, and celebrate the power of partnership in education.
We are so grateful to all who attended and hope to welcome you back soon to share your expertise with our students. If you're interested in getting involved, please contact Sarah Geard ([email protected]).

As one of the UKโs leading academics, Dr Elisabeth Carter, Forensic Linguist and Associate Professor of Criminology, addressed the European Financial Integrity Summit (EFIS) in Amsterdam as the keynote speaker, where she exposed the myriad ways in which fraud criminals hide their criminal intent; one of which is by harnessing requests for vouchers and gift cards rather than requesting money.
She uses her research findings to develop communication strategies for supermarkets and other retailers where gift cards and vouchers are for sale; directly improving public protection from fraud victimhood. She highlighted how fraud criminals build trust and control victims, and how public messaging and institutional responses often place blame on victims instead of focusing on the methods used by offenders.
