Happy March! And Happy Spring- the days are getting brighter and longer! By the end of the month the sun won’t set until around 7.30pm! ☀️

Seems like a good day for a reminder about driving in rainy and wet conditions! ☔️

Allow extra time for your journey ⏰

Take extra care around cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians and anyone else who may be more vulnerable due to the conditions 🚴‍♀️

Keep well back from the vehicle in front - this will help your visibility and ability to brake if you need to 🚗 🚗

A little positive pep talk if you are thinking about driving lessons but letting nerves hold you back!

Remember nervousness is a normal, temporary response to new experiences, take some deep breaths and try to enjoy the lesson!

Being familiar with the car itself is just as important as knowing how to do manoeuvres and drive safely on the roads! 🚗

This is a brief guide but remember it’s always worth checking the handbook 📖

There are lots of ways you can improve your skills before you even get in the car! 🚗

Being observant is incredibly important to driving as well as being able to anticipate other road users, but did you realise you can develop these skills in your day to day life. 👀

Drawing and sketching is incredible for developing observation skills (you don’t need to be a fantastic artist!!) 🎨
You can also try games like Spot the Difference and Memory challenges or put your phone/device away and allow yourself time to really take in your surroundings! 📵

Under the new road safety strategy proposals, the government are proposing a “minimum learning period of up to six months between sitting their theory and practical tests” in order to help learner drivers further develop their skills and practice driving in a wider variety of conditions.

It’s important to note this isn’t in force in England yet but will be open to public consultation.
