One of the things we love most about childminding is the perfect balance it offers. ❤️

Children benefit from being part of a small, nurturing group where they receive plenty of individual attention, build confidence, and feel truly at home. But that doesn’t mean they miss out on social opportunities!

We regularly meet up with other local childminders, giving the children the chance to make new friends, develop important social skills, and enjoy a wide range of activities together. These regular gatherings help cultivate lasting friendships while still maintaining the warmth and security of a smaller setting.

The best of both worlds: a home-from-home environment with a wider community to learn, play, and grow alongside. 🌟

Today’s Fridays adventure with our friends took us to East Soar Outdoor Experience where we braved the mist and missle to ride bikes and play in the woods The lovely owner took pity on us getting wet and let us have our lunch in the barn and then we watched the sun burn through so we played some more and said hello to the cows and goats. I often get told “gosh you have your hands full” about 10 times whilst we are out and about. I guess to the average person it can look like alot ensuring two children on balance bikes are safe and walking with another child whilst pulling a wagon piled up with lunches and other things for a fab day at our new pump track.

Truth is I wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

✨ 10 years of Little Acorns Childminding

When I first started, I thought it would only be until my children began secondary school. Little did I know it would be the start of a career that’s helped me grow and develop — going back to college to achieve my Level 3 qualification and becoming an Early Years SENDCo. 🎓🌱

Over the past decade, I’ve been blessed with the loveliest families and children. 💕 Thank you all for trusting me with your most precious gifts and allowing me to care for them — it truly means the world. 🌈👶

Another rainy day… After all the sunshine, I had grown complacent and started to think it was going to be sunny every day!

With children still needing to be entertained, I needed something fun to keep them busy in the garden. I remembered an activity that I hadn't done for a while called Squishy Soap.

It’s a bit like Play-Doh that you can use in water. It bubbles up like soap and is wonderfully tactile and sensory, holding the children’s attention for a good amount of time.

I got the idea from The Joy Journal for Magical Everyday Play by Laura Brand, so I’ve attached the ingredients and method if you’d like to give it a go yourself.

“Just” a childminder…

I wear many hats,
within my busy day,
As I help each child,
Learn through their play.

I follow their lead,
As we go off exploring,
One thing is for certain,
Our day’s never boring.

I am often a gardener,
A chef and a baker,
An artist at work,
A creative play maker.

I am a planner, a preparer,
For spontaneous days,
I am a nurse for,
those accident prone days.

I provide opportunities,
For a role play adventures,
I pack forest school bags,
For when we go off and venture.

I am a nature lover,
And encourage outdoor fun,
I am a story teller,
But we can’t just read one.

I change many nappies,
Do a hundred toilet trips,
But I am also a pirate,
That sails on their ships.

I am a feelings trainer,
To support big emotions,
And I’m also a scientist,
Who helps to make potions.

I am a mathematician,
A confidant and a friend,
I scaffold their learning,
Then with that I extend.

I prepare for the future,
And with teaching I’m prudent,
But they also teach me,
So furthermore I’m their student.

I love and I care for them,
Right from the start,
For each special child,
No, they won’t leave my heart.

So really I do many jobs,
And one thing is for sure,
I’m not “just a childminder”,
I am so much more…

Today was one of those days that reminds me just how lucky I am to do the job I do ☀️

We enjoyed sunshine, animals, lovely company, and happy, engaged children exploring and learning through play. We even had a picnic while watching aeroplanes land, which was definitely a highlight for the little ones ✈️🧺. We love East Soar Outdoor Experience

Days like these really are so special ❤️
