Alison Goodfellow the Assistant Safer Communities Manager, Thriving Communities | Westmorland and Furness Council gave a presentation to the criminology students on Friday. She explained how the council work with the various authorities, Police, Fire Service, NHS to find the causes of, and prevent crime in Cumbria.

This included setting strategies to combat crime and the social issue people face that makes them continue to commit crime. This included housing issues in addition to how the parole system in Cumbria works.

Thank you to Alison for your time this is very relevant to the criminology students as we have been studying sociological reasons for crime.

On Monday 27th January the A Level Historians participated in Holocaust Memorial Day.

Auschwitz Birkenau death camp was liberated 80 years ago this week. It was at the core of an industrial killing machine driven by the N***s’ antisemitic ideology.

Between 1941 - 1945 the N***s murdered more than six million Jews, two thirds of Europe’s Jewish ­population. A further five million people deemed to be “untermenschen” or subhuman perished in the ­death camps.

We say “Never Again” on Holocaust Memorial Day!

Our Maths and Environmental Science A-Level students took a trip to EDF's Heysham Power station this week! They learned how a power station was operated and about different careers within the industry. They also talked to a recent graduate about A-levels and university life and to our stakeholders about the importance of communication in all jobs.

Here’s some of the fantastic work our Biology students have been up to the past couple weeks… 🧬

Our first years have been constructing protein structure models, whereas our second years chose their own format to summarise the reactions in photosynthesis!
