Habitat is a small, friendly PreSchool based in Kempston. We offer places to children aged 2 to 4 years old.

At Habitat, we aim to prepare your child for school and life in general, in a safe and friendly environment. All children are welcome, and we believe that each child should have equal opportunities and access to as many resources as we can provide. We encourage the development and education of your child in various areas to increase their confidence, in a parent-involving, community-based PreSchoo

School readiness isn't about counting and phonics but rather everyday skills and early concepts which can be practiced at home in fun, everyday opportunities.

As we move into the last school term of the settings will start talking more and more about the move to 'big school' - re-assure your little ones that you, and their new teachers, will support them with this transition and be there to talk to them about any worries they may have.

Short Breaks - We need to hear from you

Following recent updates and ongoing changes to Short Breaks across Bedford Borough, it is more important than ever that parent carers share their real, lived experiences.

At BBPCF, we are the strategic voice of parent carers. This means we gather your feedback and present it directly to the Local Authority and partners to influence decisions, planning and future services.

We have already started these conversations through our Let’s Talk Short Breaks sessions, and we now need to build a clear, up-to-date picture of what is happening for families right now.

šŸ’¬ This is for ALL parent carers
Whether you:

Use Short Breaks regularly
Have tried and couldn’t access them
Aren’t sure what they are

šŸ“Š Please take a few minutes to complete our Short Breaks poll:

Good behaviour doesn’t start at school.
It starts at home.

Schools can teach routines.
We can teach expectations.
We can teach respect, kindness, and self-control.

But we cannot teach them in six hours a day
if they are undone in the other eighteen.

Children learn how to speak to adults at home.
They learn how to respond to rules at home.
They learn what happens when they refuse, argue, or say no.

A child refuses to follow an instruction at school.
There’s a consequence.
There’s upset.
There’s a phone call home.

And the response is:
ā€œHe doesn’t behave like that at home.ā€
or
ā€œHe just doesn’t like being told what to do.ā€

In that moment, the child learns something very quickly.

They learn that the rule at school can be undone at home.

Teachers will always support.
We will always guide.
We will always give chances.

But schools cannot be the only place where boundaries exist.

When routines don’t exist at home,
school feels harder.
Longer.
More frustrating.

And behaviour reflects that.

This isn’t about blaming parents.
It’s about being honest.

Children do best when expectations match.
When adults back each other.
When ā€œnoā€ means no in every setting.
When respect isn’t optional depending on the room.

Schools can do a lot.

But we cannot do it alone.
