🧬 One of the biggest ways to improve your Biology exam marks? Learning to APPLY your knowledge, not just memorise it.

Knowing it is one thing. Using it to get the marks is another! 💡

With many of my tutoring students preparing for upcoming tests, I wanted to share a quick reminder on effective revision 📚. Simply re-reading textbooks or endlessly re-writing notes feels safe, but it rarely leads to deep learning. For revision to stick, your brain needs to actively process the information. This active engagement is what encodes knowledge into your long-term memory, making retrieval more successful when you’re sitting the test. Move away from passive reading and lean into active recall—your future self will thank you! ⚡️

Apparently going back to school wasn’t enough… 😂 so I’ve opened up a couple of evening tutoring spaces for the new term:

🧬 N5 Biology – small group
Mondays at 6pm max 3 pupils, a focus on understanding, retention and application - all which develop exam skills 👌

🔬1:1 tutoring (N5 or Higher Human)
Wednesdays at 6pm
Both sessions are in person in Houston 🏡
If you’re looking for Biology support this year, drop me a message for more info! 😊

A little update… i’m almost full for the new school year! 💚 To make room for more learners, I’m now running 2 small-group sessions (1 N5 group and 1 Higher Human group - max 3 per group). If you’ve been thinking about joining, now’s the time to message 📩

One of my favourite accessibility features 👇
‘Read&Write’ app lets you change the background colour over anything you’re reading on screen — notes, worksheets, websites, PDFs, exam questions… whatever you’re using.
Helpful for some learners with dyslexia, visual stress, or anyone who finds certain screen backgrounds more comfortable to read 🧠📚
Small adjustments can make studying feel more accessible ✨

Now taking bookings for Session 2026/27!! 📔
I’m delighted to be keeping on some of my lovely N5 pupils into Higher for S5! 🥳 I’ve also already had some super-organised parents booking in for the year ahead after missing out on spaces this session!
Due to this, my diary is filling up quickly! If you think your child might benefit from some extra support next session, please get in touch ☺️.

Ashamed to admit this is me only just getting my lab coats washed after our Easter science sessions 🙈
(School uniforms always take priority unless it’s a long weekend 👨‍💼)
Was stressing about the turmeric stains… then remembered — no panic needed. A bit of sunlight = free stain removal ☀️
UV rays break down stains like a wee science wizard 🧪✨
Who needs fancy stain remover when the sun’s doing the experiment for you?

Love any excuse to make things memorable by basically being weird 😂. Plasma = mostly water 💧
Red blood cells = carry oxygen 🫁
White blood cells = destroy pathogens 🦠

Day 2 (and our final day!) of Easter Science 🐣🔬
Our little investigators had a blast solving the mystery… Who stole the Easter Bunny’s eggs?! 🕵️‍♀️🐰
From examining slime at the crime scene to analysing footprints and revealing secret messages written in invisible ink, the kids were fully immersed in the adventure!
So proud of their curiosity, teamwork and brilliant detective skills 👏✨
Thank you to everyone who came along and made it so much fun! 💛

Day 1 of Easter science done! 🧪 🧬 🐣 And what a morning it was! Curiosity and FUN from start to finish! Thank you to all who came along! ❤️ Can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow! 😬
