Suffolk Skills and Careers Festival Update for 2020
Suffolk Agricultural Association as organisers of the annual Suffolk Skills and Careers Festival confirm that the 2020 event on October 14th will not go ahead in physical form.
The organising committee comprising of Suffolk Agricultural Association, Suffolk County Council and New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership have considered in detail the risk and impact of holding a face to face event and have come to the difficult decision, that given the challenges to local Schools, Colleges and Employers, we do not want to add to the pressure they are under and will seek alternative methods to deliver on the ambitions and aims of the event.
A communication has gone out to our educational and employer contacts and we hope to be able to work with many of them over the coming months to help support the young people of Suffolk through this difficult time and continue to engage and inspire the workforce of the future.
In the meantime, we recommend any parents and young people review the resources on offer by our friends at www.icanbea.org.uk. In particular the careers wizard is a fun way to help young people decide what careers might suit them and focus the areas they want to research based on their own skills and interests; and a number of our Suffolk Skills and Careers Festival key employers have ‘Virtual Tours’ of offices and you are able to ‘meet’ staff.
For those interested in the wider agenda we are proud to be working with partners at Suffolk County Council and New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, who continue to support the provision of careers inspiration and work opportunities for young people through the New Anglia Enterprise Advisor Network and through the New Anglia Youth Pledge; this initiative forms one of the foundations of the Economic Recovery Restart Plan for the region. https://newanglia.co.uk/covid-economic-recovery/
