✨Student Spotlight ✨ Ola is currently completing placement on Ward 9 at Dewsbury & District Hospital, and Kirkwood Hospice. Ola has received amazing feedback on placement so far and staff commented that she is “able to adjust her care approach depending on the needs of the patients” and she “is very approachable and caring!” At the end of her course, Ola wants to pursue the career as a children’s nurse, and both placements will help tremendously towards achieving this! Well done Ola 👏

Our Level 3s and T levels have settled in well at Kirklees College! Today our T Level Health students were learning about acute myeloid leukemia in preparation for their Paper 2 exam. Our Level 3 Year 1s were researching in preparation for their Unit 1 exam on Human Lifespan. Our Level 3 Year 2s were researching and looking at case studies in preparation for their Unit 4 exam on Research Methods. Well done everyone ⭐

Our Health and Social Care students and staff recently took on the challenge of sewing syringe driver bags for Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity, creating an incredible 30 bags in total. 🪡 🌟 These specially designed body pouches help patients discreetly and comfortably carry battery-operated medication pumps, providing continuous pain relief and symptom management. They are often used by people receiving palliative care, end-of-life care, and chemotherapy treatment. Well done in helping to make a difference to patients and their families! 👏

Today our Health and Social Care students got to experience the Dementia Bus. This worldwide, scientifically and medically proven method of giving a person with a healthy brain and experience of what dementia might be like, allows delegates to enter the world of the person and understand which simple changes need to be made to their practice and environment to really improve lives of people with dementia. Well done to those who participated! ⭐

Olivia has joined us on placement from college and will be spending her Fridays with our Wellbeing Team over the coming months, working alongside Kaylie and Rehana.

Yesterday, Level 1 Health and Social Care worked on their live brief project with S2R S2R Create Space ✨ The students created Zines on of themes of environmentalism and mental health. All the students did great work and took inspiration from the Zine collection that Cherry Styles brought in to show the students. Well done! 👏

What a fabulous way to finish the year! 💙 Our T Level Health 2024–2026 students celebrated completing their course with an unforgettable trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach on Thursday 4th June. There were plenty of laughter and lots of screams on the rides! Some students and staff even had the chance to experience the brand new Invictus ride!
We are so proud of all you’ve achieved the past 2 years! ✨

Destination returns to our Health and Social Care Department at Kirklees College to create a series of podcasts on Sexual Health. A group of students will be coming every Friday 1-3pm to plan their podcasts, and then over summer they will be working with healthcare professionals to record their podcasts. Meet Issey 👋 She is studying T Level Health and is in the 1st year of her studies. Issey is completing placement on Endoscopy and Ward 17 at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Issey commented, “I have gained a lot of knowledge from being able to observe different types of procedures, and being able to talk to patients during difficult procedures”. Issey has completed an amazing 182 hours of placement out of the minimum requirement of 315 hours. Well done, we are all very proud of you! ⭐
