As part of our science work, Holly class have been designing and making their own microhabitats. We can’t wait to see if our habitats survive and attract insects next week. 🪱🕷️🐞🐜

Today we took our learning outside and explored positive and negative space using playground equipment🛝 The children used chalk to draw the shapes inside and around the apparatus, helping them understand how shapes can be formed by both the object themselves and the space around it💠

The children were so enthusiastic and creative 🎨 This did mean things got a little chalky- at least it’s P.E tomorrow🏏

🏏 West Yorkshire Cricket Finals 🏏

Well done to our y5/6 cricket team, who represented our school at the West Yorkshire Cricket Finals at Hunslet Nelson CC today.

They showed great skill, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the day against strong competition. The children batted confidently, bowled accurately, and worked hard in the field. Just as importantly, they supported each other brilliantly and maintained a positive attitude in every match.

Taking part in a regional final is a fantastic achievement, and all our pupils should feel extremely proud of their efforts. The team have now qualified for the Yorkshire Finals later this month.

Thank you to parents and carers for your continued support, we couldn’t do this without you.

A special well done to one of our trust schools - Kirkburton Middle School, who have also qualified for the Yorkshire Finals.

To celebrate the excitement of the World Cup, we are running a fun class sweepstake for the children across school.

We’re encouraging the children to get creative as there will be prizes for the best decorated classroom and the winning class team ⚽️

Today, in art, Year 3 explored the wonderful world of sculpture and 2D/3D shapes 🟫The children were challenged to be imaginative and inventive-without using tape or glue 🎨This meant lots of problem-solving, balancing, slotting, folding and cutting as they worked out how to build their own structures. From football pitches to ponies, every child found their own way to bring their ideas to life 🏟️🐴Your sculptures were fantastic- well done, Year 3!🧑‍🎨👩‍🎨

Thank you to Abi from PSP, who completed our baseline assessments for years 2, 4 and 6 this morning.

These fun and active activities help us understand each child’s ability in key areas such as balance, coordination, agility, and fundamental movement skills.

These assessments aren’t about competition, they help us tailor our PE lessons so every child can progress, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of physical activity.

We were so impressed with the enthusiasm, effort, and positive attitudes shown by all pupils, well done everyone!

Today our amazing Year 3 learners became mini explorers as they used atlases and globes to discover more about our world! 🗺️🔍

We found the Equator – an invisible line around the middle of the Earth – and learned how it helps us divide the planet into the Northern Hemisphere (top half) and the Southern Hemisphere (bottom half). 🌎

The children also explored what the weather is like in different places. They discovered that areas around the Equator are usually hot and sunny all year round, while places further away can be much cooler. We used torches to demonstrate the sun’s rays☀️🌧️❄️

We were so impressed with their curiosity, teamwork, and map skills. Well done, Year 3 explorers! 👏🌟

Holly and Maple class have been exploring the school grounds to find objects that were living, non living and once alive to support our science learning this half term.

Well done to the small but mighty team Scholes that took part in the final cross country race at Neiley playing fields last night. They showed determination, resilience and a positive attitude throughout the race and it was wonderful to see them challenge themselves and complete the course with confidence.

I’m so proud of you for competing on all three races, once the results come through I will share your overall positions.
