Hereโ€™s what weโ€™ve been up to recently at Preschoolโ€ฆ

We enjoyed celebrating Pirates for the week, with lots of fabulous dressing up and all things pirate themed! We had a special letter from Captain Hook and had to find his treasure. The children were so lucky they got to keep their special golden coin ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฐ

We had sensory treasure hunts with cereals, rice and shaving foam to try and find the golden gems ๐Ÿ’Ž

We also designed our own pirate flag and did some excellent counting using treasure chests! ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ

As the weather got cooler, we welcomed Autumn with leaf printing, pumpkin making, a woodland densory tray and reading books about Autumn. We also learnt that leaves turn brown and orange in Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ ๐ŸŒณ

We decorated our new autumn board with the pumpkins and leaves. It looks so lovely with all of the childrenโ€™s artwork โ˜บ๏ธ๐ŸŽƒ

What a fun filled couple of weeks weโ€™ve all had ๐Ÿ

This weeks TasteEd activity was inspired by the book โ€˜Each Peach, Pear, Plumโ€™
We enjoyed feeling the textures of each fruit, with words like โ€œsmoothโ€ โ€œbumpyโ€ โ€œsoftโ€ and โ€œfurryโ€ being used.
Then, we all had a go at chopping each fruit. We had our own chopping boards and worked really hard!!
Finally, we tried the fruits. They were all so delicious and enjoyed by us all!
Another great week of TasteEd! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ

This week our TasteEd activity was โ€˜Whatโ€™s In The Sock?โ€™

The children found this one very funny as they had to guess each fruit or vegetable by feeling inside the sock ๐Ÿงฆ

Lots of descriptive words were used such as: Crunchy, soft, hard, bumpy, spiky, and squidgy.

Once we found out what was in the sock, the children got the chance to try each fruit or vegetable. Not everyone has to try, so some children had a feel or a smell instead!

Our favourite was definitely the coconut ๐Ÿฅฅ We were all so interested in what was inside, it took a while but we eventually got into it and drained the water into a glass ๐Ÿฅฅ Most of us tried the coconut as it was a new flavour and texture!

We also had baby corn, corn on the cob, pepper, sugar snap peas and onions ๐Ÿง… ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿซ›๐Ÿซ‘

A fun and exciting TasteEd experience for us all and a great way to explore new textures and tastes ๐Ÿ˜Š

This week our TasteEd activity was
"All The Senses, Eat The Rainbow". ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿผโœ‹๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘„

We used seven different vegetables and fruits and their colours represented the colours of the rainbow. We had a smell or taste of the different foods and then explored how they felt.

Afterwards the children got to explore with the food using the utensils and made their own rainbows, we also spoke about which was our favourite to taste and favourite to look at by the colour! ๐Ÿฅฌ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿ‹

This weeks Taste Ed activity was focusing on โ€˜Loud and Quietโ€™

We looked at fruits and vegetables that would make different sounds when we tried them. We had raw carrots, sugar snap peas, raw baby corn and plums ๐Ÿฅ•๐ŸŒฝ

We looked at bowls of raw pasta to see what sounds they made when we mixed them and snapped them! ๐Ÿฅฃ

We used lots of descriptive words such as hard, crunchy, soft, squishy and spoke about the sound the vegetables made when we snapped them ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿฝ

One of the topics of discussion were what happens to the foods when they are cooked. We realised that most of the foods were soft when they were cooked, but hard when they were raw!

Well done Preschool this was a great TasteEd session and we canโ€™t wait for the next! ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿด

This week we have started an exciting new activity for our preschools.

We have chosen to include TastEd within our curriculum, it covers many areas of learning such as, Personal, Social, Emotional Development, Understanding Of The World and Self Care.

Then benefits of TastEd are; allowing children to be more mindful around food and to give them the space and confidence to talk about their likes and dislikes. TastEd is nurturing and a positive way to reconnect with sensory pleasures of food. Through the two golden rules, no one has to like, no one has to try.

Our children at Fizzy Fish Preschool were very much engrossed, we began chatting, using describing words, such as hard, bumpy, wet and crunchy to describe apples. We asked the children about the differences and they noticed that the apples were different sizes and colours and had different patterns.
๏ฟผ
Then children went on to use amazing chopping skills and everyone was keen to have a taste of apple. As a group at the end of the activity the children asked if we could leave the apples over the weekend to see what would happen to them. The children had noticed the apples had changed colour, got smaller and the texture had changed!

Well done Fizzy Fish Preschool, we canโ€™t wait for our next TastEd session!๐Ÿ ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ

Messy Week! ๐Ÿ

Last week we had the best time exploring all things messy! The children loved taking part in different activities each day which were gloop, jelly, colourful rice, water play, ice cube with objects or animals inside, shaving foam with paint and play dough with spaghetti and cheerios ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿซง๐ŸงŠ๐ŸŒˆ

We used all our senses during these activities to see how things felt, looked and smelt. We had group discussions on what we thought anout each activity and then children came up with some good words explaining what the messy activities were like for example, "Wet", "Sticky", "Slimey" and โ€œCold" ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ๐Ÿ‘„

Over the last few weeks we have enjoyed watching our caterpillars grow into beautiful butterflies ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿฆ‹

We fed them orange and watched them every day to make sure they were okay. We spoke about what happens to caterpillars and how they turn into butterflies. We did this with help from our favourite story โ€˜The Very Hungry Caterpillarโ€™๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ“š
