Yesterday, we wrapped up warm and went on a chilly trip to the zoo! ❄️🦒

The children were so excited and had lots of questions about the animals we saw.

A trip to the zoo is not only fun but holds so many learning experiences...

*🦁 Understanding the World – we spoke about where animals live, what they eat, and how they are looked after.
*🗣️ Communication & Language – learning new words and describing what we could see and hear.
*👣 Physical Development – lots of walking and exploring (we definitely kept warm!).
*🤝 Personal, Social & Emotional Development – staying together, taking turns and listening carefully to keep safe.
Real-life experiences like this help children learn in the best way – through seeing, doing, and exploring 💛

Pancake day 🥞

Today, we celebrated Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday). We spoke about how, a long time ago, people used up their eggs, milk, and flour before a special time called lent.
By making our pancakes from scratch, the children learnt to...
✨ Count and measure ingredients
✨ Mix and pour carefully
✨ Take turns and share
✨ Follow simple instructions
✨ Try new foods with different textures
We also spoke about how different families celebrate in different ways, helping the children understand the world around them.😋🥞

A little dirt washes off… but the learning and memories stay forever 🌟
There’s nothing better than a muddy puddle walk 🌧️👣

Today, we wrapped up warm, pulled on our wellies, and headed out to explore the wonderful world of mud and puddles! And let's face it, there is plenty of it at the minute 🌧
The children were so excited to splash in puddles, notice their footprints, and investigate what happens to the ground when it’s wet and squishy. 💦
They were all taking it in turns, encouraging each other, and building confidence to explore something messy.
Getting messy helps children feel textures, explore freely, and learn that it’s okay to try, test things out, and discover new opportunities and our likes and dislikes.🫂

❤️ Valentine’s Day❤️
Today, the children explored a simple but meaningful activity using heart-shaped cotton pads and pipettes, squeezing different coloured water onto them. Each colour had a different added scent🩷❤️💜

✨ What we learned (EYFS):
🔹 Physical Development – Using pipettes helped strengthen fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and the muscles needed for early writing as the children squeezed and released the Pipettes.
🔹 Understanding the World – The children observed cause and effect, explored colour mixing, and noticed how the liquid absorbed and spread across the cotton pads.
🔹 Expressive Arts & Design – They freely experimented with colours, creating their own Valentine hearts and expressing themselves creatively.
🔹 Communication & Language – Lots of lovely conversations around colours, feelings, and describing what was happening as they played “It’s turning purple!”, "Red is my favourite colour."
🔹 Personal, Social & Emotional Development – Turn-taking, sharing resources, and taking pride in their creations helped build confidence and independence.

A simple activity with so much learning within it 💕

🌟 A huge shout out to the unsung heroes of the school holidays… the incredible children of childminders! 🌟

While everyone celebrates the amazing work childminders do (and rightly so!) — there’s a group of quiet heroes who don’t always get the credit they deserve.

These amazing kids share their mums and dads every single day — with babies, toddlers, big kids, and everyone in between 👶🧒👧
They open their homes, their toys, their space… and most importantly, their hearts ❤️

🌟 They become bonus siblings, best friends, peacekeepers, entertainers, snack buddies, and cuddle givers 🧸🍪🎨

They show patience when things are noisy 🔊
Kindness when others need a friend 🤝
And flexibility when their routines get shuffled ⏰

They’re the glue that helps hold it all together —
the smiling faces, the helping hands, the big-hearted legends ✨

They often wait quietly while someone else’s needs are met first — coming second more than they should sometimes 🫣 — and still show up with love ❤️

🥰 So here’s to you, my own beautiful children, and all the childminder children out there — the true heroes of the school holidays 💪
We see you, we appreciate you, and we think you’re absolutely amazing!

Happy Pancake Day! Today can be great fun for all the family but please keep safety in mind.

According to NHS officials, the demand for advice on burns and scalds rises dramatically on pancake day. So please remember:

• Keep pans out of reach of little hands by turning pan handles away from the edge of the counter and using the back rings of the hob
• Don’t leave your cooking unattended
• Keep small children away from the cooking area
• In the event of a burn injury, remember COOL, CALL, COVER. COOL the burn for 20 minutes under cool running water. CALL for help. COVER the burn loosely with cling film.
