Recently here at Trafalgar some of our children were fortunate enough to meet Pansy Potter, a 100 year old tortoise belonging to the delightful grandparents of one of our fabulous families. They were very excited, as was Mrs Bolton, to welcome another member of the reptile world into school for a day of memorable learning that was off the scale!

Pansy Potter munched on beetroot, apple, cucumber and lettuce throughout his time in school and all three year groups were interested to discover that most of the water absorbed by these creatures comes from this sort of food so no water bottle or bowl was needed for hydration purposes.

Pansy Potter seemed to be enjoying the summertime after his hibernation in the colder months of the year when he snuggles down to have a warm, cosy sleep. It was interesting to see him seeking out shady spots in the Inclusion Room where he enjoyed being in his run and this led to lots of important discussions around behaviour and habitats.

Over the years Pansy Potter has shown great resilience and determination having had his shell burned in a bonfire. He also suffered a leg injury as the result of a fox bite but this doesn't seem to have impaired his spirit, movement or sense of direction and his remarkably long lifespan remains intact. What a lesson to us all.

A real end of term shell-ebration 🐢 was had by so many and we're truly grateful to Pansy Potter's owners for entrusting us with his care for the day. A big thank you too to
Mrs Tilley for coordinating the arrangements after the visit was initially postponed due to the overwhelming temperatures of a couple of weeks ago.

The Summer Fair is nearly here!

3 Days until our school summer fair on Saturday, 11th July (1-4pm).

It's not too late to buy your tickets for the Planetarium show.

You can also still volunteer to help on a stall with your friends or your children.

Extra raffle tickets can be picked up from the office for friends and family, or bought on the day.

With the warm weather continuing, we’re making a few adjustments across school to help keep our children safe, comfortable and ready to learn.

Parents can help by:
✅ Applying sunscreen before school
✅ Sending a named water bottle every day
✅ Providing a named sun hat
✅ Dressing children in light, comfortable clothing

Please take a moment to read our Hot Weather Safety guide and speak to your child about the signs of dehydration and the importance of staying hydrated.

🏰✨ Year 2 Explore Arundel Castle

Year 2 had a fantastic day discovering history at Arundel Castle. Bathed in sunshine, the children explored the beautiful grounds and stepped back in time as they visited the Keep, the Great Hall, and the Armoury.

The castle guides were incredibly impressed, not only with the children’s excellent behaviour, but also with their brilliant knowledge of castles and the thoughtful questions they asked throughout the day. 👏

From climbing high to the top of the Keep to trying on costumes and acting out battles, it was a day full of excitement, learning, and adventure!

A huge thank you to our parent helpers. This special trip wouldn’t have been possible without you.

🌿🚜 Reception’s First School Trip 🐑🐖

Our Reception children had an unforgettable first school trip to Bocketts Farm! From the moment we boarded the coach, excitement was in the air.

We kicked off the day with a bumpy tractor ride, waving to deer, alpacas, cows, and more along the way. In the barns, we met a whole range of animals, including two adorable lambs who were just one day old! The children loved getting hands-on, especially when stroking Hazel the rabbit. 🐇

After learning about the horses (one even enjoys mint polos!), we cheered loudly at the pig race. Congratulations to the winning pig, Snoop Hog! 🐷🏁

The day ended with plenty of fun in the play area, from climbing and sliding to bouncing on trampolines, and a few sleepy faces on the coach ride home!

We are so proud of how well the children behaved! They were a real credit to the school, and the farm staff were very impressed. A big thank you to all the parents who supported us on the trip! 😀

At the end of last term Mrs Bolton was very excited to welcome Oliver, a reptile enthusiast and sibling of a current pupil, to Trafalgar. He'd kindly offered to showcase his leopard gecko and corn snake to some of our children to allow them to explore these fascinating species.

Leo the leopard gecko has a fragile tail and this was respected by everyone as they observed his movements and imagined him wandering on dry, rocky grassland. Although he wasn’t particularly hungry during his visit it was fascinating to learn about his diet and see a cricket being available to him as a food source to demonstrate a life cycle of predator and prey.

Noodle the corn snake felt warm and soft to handle and sat on laps before coiling himself around welcoming arms. Lots of interesting information about his skin shedding was forthcoming and it was great to see him slither along the ground as part of his movement activity.

The children attending these sessions were focussed throughout and super excited both before and afterwards sharing their visible joy with staff and their peers. The reptiles’ presence was comforting and offered several moments of connection as both creatures make little audible noise, thrive in an indoor environment and are wholly reassuring and practical companions which was very beneficial.

An enormous thank you to Oliver and his family for making this fabulous hands on experience available to children across all three year groups. His enthusiasm as an owner and handler wowed Mrs Bolton and the children who were fortunate enough to be part of this special morning.

During last half term some of our children had the opportunity to join Mrs Bolton for guinea pig petting time thanks to another of the kind and caring families within our community.

Melon, who loves nothing more than nibbling on the fruit of the same name amongst others, gained lots of admirers during her time at school.

Not only is she very fluffy and friendly but she's also wonderful at playing hide and seek often burrowing under blankets and clothes to find the most secluded spots.

Everyone noticed how small, sweet and 'chatty' Melon was and observed her compact body shape and awareness of her surroundings as she moved back and forth exploring new areas of her habitat.

Many of her new found friends also benefitted from the stability and structure of considering all the things this little bundle of joy needed during her visits which supported their learning journeys in terms of responsibility, compassion and understanding.
