🇩🇪 German Connectors (B1/B2) — Quick Lesson

Connectors (Konnektoren) link ideas and show the relationship between sentences. Mastering them makes your German sound clear, natural, and advanced.

1) Cause (Warum?) — reason
Use when you explain why something happens.
👉 weil, da, deshalb, deswegen, darum
Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil ich krank bin.
(I stay home because I’m sick.)

2) Contrast — opposite idea
Shows disagreement or surprise.
👉 aber, jedoch, hingegen, während, einerseits … andererseits
Ich mag Kaffee, aber ich trinke heute Tee.

3) Concession — “despite that”
Something happens even though another fact exists.
👉 obwohl, obgleich, auch wenn, trotzdem, dennoch
Obwohl es regnet, gehen wir spazieren.

4) Result — consequence
Shows what happens as a result.
👉 sodass / so dass, daher, deshalb, darum, folglich

5) Time — sequence of events

6) Addition — extra information
Adds more details.

7) Condition — if / under what condition
👉 wenn, falls, sofern
Wenn es morgen regnet, bleiben wir zu Hause.
