Come and Play! You’re Invited to Our OPAL Stay & Play Sessions

We are absolutely thrilled to invite you into school to experience the magic of our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) playtimes first-hand!

If you've ever wondered how a cardboard box, a stray tyre, or a piece of fabric can keep children captivated for hours, this is your chance to find out. To the untrained eye, our playground might look like it’s filled with random bits and bobs, but to our children, it is a treasure trove of pure imagination! Whether they are building epic dens, designing obstacle courses, or inventing complex new games, these loose parts are unlocking incredible levels of creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving.
We want to share the brilliance of this play style with you. We are opening our school gates and inviting you to step onto the playground, engage with your child, and—most importantly—have some lovely, fun-filled playtime together!

When to Join Us
Please find your child’s class slot below and come along during their allocated playtime:
Thursday 17th September: Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Tiger and Panda
10:30 AM – 11:00 AM: Turtle and Giraffe
11:00 AM – 11:30 AM: Meerkat and Turtle
11:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Kangaroo and Koala
Friday 18th September: Years 1 and 2
10:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Bear and Otter
10:30 AM – 11:00 AM: Lion, Seal and Dolphin

A Few Quick Tips for the Day:

Dress for the weather: OPAL play happens rain or shine! Please wear comfortable clothes and sensible shoes, as you might get a little dusty or muddy while playing.
Get involved: Don't be shy—let your child lead the way and show you how they transform everyday objects into extraordinary adventures.

We are so excited to welcome you into school to see the sheer joy and brilliance of OPAL play in action. See you on the playground!

🏆 WE GOT PLATINUM! 🏆

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Riverside Primary has achieved the prestigious Platinum School Games Mark Award for 2025/26! 🎉✨ This is a massive milestone and a true team effort.

A huge thank you to the amazing people who made this possible:

🗣️ Our Sports Crew: For helping run our sporting events and being the vital voice of our pupils!

⚽ Ashley Knott & Mark Kemp: For coaching our football teams—with a special shoutout to Ashley's Year 3/4 team for winning their league! 🏆

🏐 Mrs Kruse & Mrs Murray: For coaching our brilliant netball team and creating a buzz around netball.

🌟 Mrs Millgate (Sports Coach): My incredible right-hand woman who organized every single event and gave all our children the chance to shine.

All in a Year at Riverside!

What a year it has been for Riverside sport!

From football, netball, cross country, badminton, dodgeball and athletics to dance festivals, rounders, curling, boccia and district competitions, our pupils have proudly represented Riverside throughout the year.

Alongside competitions, children have enjoyed active OPAL lunchtimes, Sports Zone activities, clubs and opportunities to discover new sports, develop resilience and work as part of a team.

Whether competing for medals or simply having fun, every child has been encouraged to be active, challenge themselves and celebrate success.

We’re incredibly proud of every one of them.

Year 3 trip to Skreens Park 🏕️✨

Year 3 had the most incredible residential trip filled with laughter, new friendships, and plenty of outdoor fun! 🌲🚶‍♂️ From working together on team challenges to stepping out of their comfort zones on the activities, they completely blew us away with their resilience and positive attitudes. ⭐👏

A huge thank you to the fantastic team at Skreens Park for looking after us so well, 🪵🙏 and an even bigger well done to our wonderful pupils who showed fantastic teamwork, communication, and leadership skills throughout the trip! 🏆🎒🌟

🏆 THE INVINCIBLES: RAYLEIGH LEAGUE CHAMPIONS! 🏆

History has been made! Mr Knott’s team have achieved the perfect season, securing a flawless record of 6 matches, 6 wins, and 0 losses to lift the trophy! 🥇⚽️

This incredible feat was a true masterclass in teamwork, grit, and discipline:
🛡️ A Defence of Iron: Noah (The Shot Stopper) was an unbeatable wall in goal, whilst Sonny (The Enforcer) and Lenny (The Anchor) turned the penalty area into an impenetrable fortress. ⚔️ The Creative Spark: On the flanks, Reggie (The Flyer) and Casper (The Trickster) were the ultimate weapons. Their relentless pace and skill meant that while other teams were tiring, we were just getting started. 🎯 The Ultimate Finishers: Clinical under pressure, George (The Predator) and Jayden (The Sniper) made every single chance count to ensure the team always came away with the points. 👔 The Architect: A 100% win rate is a huge testament to Coach Ash. His tactical guidance and energy transformed this talented squad into unstoppable champions.

Six games. Six wins. They played with heart, they played for the badge, and they finished as the absolute best. Huge congratulations to our Invincibles—enjoy the medals, boys! You’ve thoroughly earned it!

And that’s a wrap! 🎭✨

Following on from our rehearsals, the children have now officially performed to their siblings, friends, and parents across three incredible shows - and they were absolutely amazing!

Watching their confidence and talent grow throughout this journey has been nothing short of incredible. From the brilliant acting and singing on stage to the fantastic stagehands supporting props, sound, and tech behind the scenes, every single child played a vital part.

We hope this experience inspires them as they head into Year 7 to join drama clubs, sign up for choirs, or even start their own bands! There is so much joy to be found in music, singing, acting, and performing. They truly are our musical and theatrical stars of the future - we hope they've caught the performing bug! 🌟

Join us for an exciting before-school club where pupils will use Minecraft Education to:
🧱 Build amazing worlds together
💻 Learn coding and STEM skills
