When children have the tools to communicate, they have more opportunities to express themselves, connect with others and feel confident in who they are.

For some children, communication may begin with spoken words. For others, it may include gestures, facial expressions, visual communication and BSL signs.

We teach BSL signs to help children build those communication skills early, even as a baby! Creating more opportunities to be understood, included and confident.

Because every child deserves to have a voice, however they communicate 🩵

Sometimes the best way to learn is to get involved, and what better way to practise signs than through songs?

Our Favourite Songs resource brings music, movement and BSL together, creating an enjoyable way for children and families to practise signing while enjoying some familiar favourites.

Songs naturally encourage repetition, which means those signs can become more familiar each time you sing along.

And there's something pretty special about seeing a room full of little hands signing along to a song.

They begin with a smile, a gesture, eye contact… or a simple sign.

Maintaining appropriate eye contact while signing helps you stay engaged with the person you're communicating with and shows you're actively involved in the conversation.

When signing with babies and children, you can do things like calling their name, making a silly noise, tapping on the floor or moving into their proximity/vision depending on their hearing ability.
