📐 Calculator at the Ready! Good Luck, Year 11 📐

It’s time for GCSE Maths Paper 2! After tackling the non-calculator paper, it’s time to let the technology (and your hard work) do the heavy lifting. To all our students sitting their GCSE Maths Calculator Paper today, the team at Moss Tutoring is behind you all the way!

This paper is a fantastic opportunity to pick up marks on trigonometry, compound interest, and complex data, so keep your cool and let’s get those marks.

🧮 Essential Tips for Paper 2:

Write It Down: Even with a calculator, don't skip steps. Write down the calculation you typed in to secure those method marks.

Don't Round Too Early: Keep the full decimal on your screen until the very end to ensure your final answer is accurate. 🔢

Read the Command Words: Are they asking you to "Solve," "Simplify," or "Prove"? Each requires a different approach.

Believe in your prep, trust your tools, and stay focused. You've got this! 🌟

As you know, last week I had a few days in Norway! I was lucky enough to run Tøyen parkrun, which is the oldest parkrun in Norway - I'm currently trying to see if I can run the first parkrun event in as many countries as I can and so far I've done Bushy Park in the UK, Tampere in Finland and I've now added Tøyen to the list! Looking forward to where I go next!

As for things when I got back home, the majority of sessions for my secondary pupils have all been revision focussed for their upcoming assessments. We've been exploring some tricky questions in Year 9 where you had to find the shortest route from one point to another, but it wasn't as simple as it seemed... we had to do some Pythagoras and finding the circumference of a semi circle as part of our investigations!

It's now half term in the UK, so enjoy your week off and the weather is set to be incredible!

It’s been a week of limited tutoring for me as I’m currently in Oslo, Norway! This photo was taken whilst climbing up the Opera House which offers amazing views over Oslo Fjord.

I’ll update with more another time but for now I’m just enjoying some rest and relaxation - I’ve not been away since our trip to Finland in August last year so it’s been a long time coming.

What a week it’s been at Moss Tutoring! Our students have been pushing their boundaries and showing incredible progress across all year groups. Here’s a peek at what we’ve been up to:

Year 5: We’ve been diving deep into adding and subtracting decimals. Mastering place value is the secret to success here, and our Year 5s are becoming absolute pros!

Year 9: It’s been an "abstract" week! Our Year 9 students have been exploring Pythagoras’ Theorem on coordinate axes. They’ve moved beyond simple triangles to calculating the length of the hypotenuse using coordinates alone. Impressive stuff! 📐

Probability Power: Year 9 have also been using frequency trees to visualize and solve complex probability problems. This is a vital skill for GCSE Maths success.
