Check out my latest blog post going through a list of the songs I've taught this year. Let me know if you think there's a song that should be on my list!

I thought another post might be helpful to those looking for a potential guitar teacher, and for parents or students wanting to see what I'm teaching in my lessons. Here's a list of some of the songs...

🎵Track of the Week: Californication - Red Hot Chilli Peppers 🎸

A great track with a simple verse part that can be made more complex by adding in the bass fills. This makes it a great song for beginners and those who are more intermediate (using techniques like hammer-ons etc)

The track also has a melodic solo, great for those starting to push out into this area of playing - it includes lots of bends, hammer-ons and pull-offs to master.

🎵Track of the week: House of The Rising Sun - The Animals 🎸

Originally a traditional folk song, the Animals version is probably the most famous. This song is great for those who want to work on getting their chords sounding crystal clear.

We can pay this song by arpeggiating each of the chords - this means to play each note individually ascending or descending instead of strumming all the notes together. It's also just a great chord progression to know!

FAQ: Does learning guitar have a steep learning curve?

Learning any instrument, or any new skill, has a certain learning curve. You should never feel discouraged from not 'getting' it straight away. One of the most rewarding parts of learning guitar is working on a certain song or technique and it finally clicking into place.

Watching this happen for students is also my favourite part of teaching! So embrace the curve, it's worthwhile.

🎵Track of the week: Day Tripper - The Beatles 🎸

Another classic Beatles track and a great beginner riff to learn. The main riff is also played into three different positions in the song, echoing a blues-stye progression.

Though it is fairly straightforward for intermediate players, its still great fun to jam along to!

There was a lot of live music going on this bank holiday weekend! I played 3 gigs myself and I can definitely feel it now. 😴

Watching people play live is such a motivator and inspiration to start playing - so drop us a message if you were inspired over the weekend!

Track of the week: Wanted Dead Or Alive - Bon Jovi

The intro to this song is actually played on a 12 string guitar (each string is doubled with a second string an octave higher) but it still sounds great on your six string!

Using a pick it can help us with our string skipping, and using our fingers it can help us start fingerpicking!

A classic tune that wins over any crowd too 🎸🎵
