We had a very exciting afternoon in school today, when the Safer Neighbourhood Team came to visit us. The Police Officers were absolutely wonderful with the children, talking to them about stranger danger, how to stay safe in the community, and who to talk to if they ever feel scared in public. The children listened brilliantly and asked thoughtful questions about how police officers help keep everyone safe.
They loved exploring the officers’ uniforms, looking closely at the badges, equipment, and the bright colours that help us spot police officers when we’re out and about. One of the biggest highlights was getting to see inside the police car, the children were fascinated by the buttons, radios, and lights, and they were full of excitement when they got to hear the sirens and turn the blue lights on.
It was a fantastic visit that helped the children understand how the police keep our neighbourhood safe and how they can look after themselves when they’re out in the community. We are so grateful to them for making the session so engaging, reassuring, and memorable for our children. 👮🚔

To help celebrate National Smile month, we had a fantastic visit from the lovely dental nurses at Goyt Valley Dental Practice. They came to teach the children all about caring for their teeth! 🦷✨

The children learnt which foods and drinks help keep their teeth healthy and discovered just how much hidden sugar can be found in some everyday treats. They were amazed to see the results!

One of the highlights of the session was trying disclosing tablets, which turned their mouths purple and revealed where plaque can hide. The nurses then showed everyone the correct way to brush their teeth, and the children loved practicing their new brushing skills.

It was a fun, interactive session full of smiles, learning, and laughter, thank you to Goyt Valley Dental Practice for such a brilliant visit! 😊❤️

The children had a wonderful time exploring the Toy Museum and discovering toys from different eras — some were very familiar, while others were quite surprising! They also learnt about what life was like for Victorian children, including the jobs many children had to do if their families could not afford for them to attend school, such as working as chimney sweeps. The children even had the chance to climb inside a chimney to experience just how dark and cramped it would have been.

After enjoying our packed lunches and a play on the grass, it was time for what many said was their favourite part of the day — the Victorian School experience! The children lined up just as Victorian pupils would have done, with boys on one side and girls on the other, before having their hands inspected for cleanliness. They entered the classroom in silence and learnt how boys sat at the front because Victorians believed their education was more important than girls’.

The children practised the three Rs — Reading, Writing and Arithmetic — and discovered some of the strict ways teachers controlled behaviour in Victorian schools, including the cane and the dunce’s hat.

The children were beautifully behaved throughout the day and represented the school wonderfully. We are very proud of them all!

It has been a very busy week for us. Today, we celebrated David Attenborough’s 100th birthday🎂, which tied in perfectly with National Hedgehog Week 🦔. It has been a wonderful experience for everyone.

The children have enjoyed learning all about David Attenborough, what a national treasure he is, and how his incredible knowledge and work have helped people across the world understand more about animals, both great and small. They have also learnt how important it is to care for our planet and protect wildlife for future generations.❤️

🌍✨ Celebrating Earth Day at Our School! ✨🌍

This week, our wonderful children have been learning all about Earth Day and why it’s so important to take care of our beautiful planet. 💚

We explored what makes the Earth happy and what can make it sad, and talked about simple but powerful ways we can all help—like recycling, reducing waste, and being kind to the world around us. The children shared fantastic ideas about how they can encourage others to look after the Earth too!

Our learning didn’t stop in the classroom… we headed outside for a spot of litter picking and spent time appreciating the amazing nature around us. From trees and plants to flowers and animals, the children loved observing and celebrating the natural world. 🌿🌸🐞

We are so proud of their enthusiasm and thoughtful ideas.

Together, we are helping to grow a generation that cares for our planet—not just on Earth Day, but every day! ❤️🌎💫
