A big well done to Mickey who won the Children's Art trophy at the Village Show this year. The judges were particularly impressed with Mickey's self-portrait. Well done to everyone that entered!

The Swallowtail Federation of Schools has achieved the Silver Award for the Religious Education Quality Mark, this a reflection of the hard work and dedication of Mrs Holmes (RE Lead), teaching staff and wonderful children who contributed to the process by sharing their voice, knowledge and examples of work.

Together with their families, the children moved around the different traditional Sports Day activities. These included: egg and spoon race, wheelbarrow race, sack race and obstacle course. After this, in their family teams, they undertook the relay race! The children enjoyed a picnic on the field and a visit from the ice cream van!

We are incredibly proud, as a Federation to have raised £5,356 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Once the children heard a team of staff members were completing the Mighty Hike, they wanted to be part of the action. EYFS and Key Stage 1 completed a sponsored sports challenge, whilst Key Stage 2 hiked between the three schools (a total of 7 miles). A huge well done to everyone that took part. A real example of our vision in action. With Friendship, Trust and Kindness we Fly!

Before any writing activity, we complete our 'Ready to Write' checks to Set the Standard of writing. Together, our Reception children check that they have a good posture for writing, a sharp pencil and that their paper is correctly positioned, slanted according to the hand they write with.
Consciously our children are considering whether their letters are formed correctly, that they have included finger spaces and that their letters are sitting on the line.
Within the Swallowtail Federation, handwriting is taught explicitly, in line with the letter families.
These pictures show the children applying their handwriting skills within their Little Wandle phonics lesson.

Children from Sutton and Hickling joined together for Forest School club. This week we had an important planting job to do. We planted: potatoes, squash, courgettes and some flowers into our raised beds. Next week we will be pond dipping!
