Today, let's hear from Ava Boswell from River Stewardship Company

In school, Ava was the head of Forging Our Futures, which was the climate change initiative group, and she always had an interest in the environment. She was also good at organising and managing things, but she didn't yet realise there was a job in that.

After school, she went to work at a quiche factory doing a Chartered Manager degree apprenticeship, but for various reasons, this didn't quite work, so Ava decided to take a year out. At this point, she assumed she was going to go to university, but then she found a Level 3 Apprenticeship at Riverlution, and she has now been there almost two years!

It's been great to get to know Ava over the past few months, and we can't wait to see her continue to grow!

Today, let's hear from Kirsty Sandamas from Sheffield Futures

Kirsty was born with a metabolic bone disease, which meant she was regularly breaking her bones. This instilled in her an 'I can do this' attitude and a lot of resilience.

Kirsty's parents are both self-employed, so she always liked the idea of doing a job that she's passionate about, and through studying sociology, she really got a good understanding of how she wanted to contribute to society. After university, she took an unpaid internship at The Red Cross, and this cemented for her that that was the right sector for her.

She then moved on to work at Citizens Advice, but she was trying out what being self-employed would be like at the time. She was doing some freelance comms work, and that’s what brought her to Sheffield Futures!
