Transforming transport & mobility in Scotland: Primary and Secondary school’s challenge

Inspiring and supporting your learners to make well informed decisions about their future and assisting you to embed Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance into your school FREE of charge.

This challenge supports young people to start to think about their next steps after school and embeds careers education into the curriculum alongside being mapped to the Scottish curriculum for excellence.

Pupils are asked to undertake 5x key tasks including researching, reimagining, planning and pitching before then looking at the potential career options available using what have just learnt. Based around a sustainability and mobility focus which asks teams to invent a new form of public shared transport to support Scottish mobility.

The challenge also supports pupils in their soft and employability skills by using teamwork, communication and reasoning throughout.

🚦There are 7 Formula 1 teams who have their racing operations based in the UK, including McLaren, Mercedes, Alpine, Aston Martin, Red Bull, Williams, and Haas.
🚦Motorsport is one of the few sporting activities in which men and women can compete alongside each other on equal terms, and in recent years, the number of women involved across all sectors of motorsport has increased.

The automotive sector must attract a new generation of talent to remain in-step with technological innovation; and collaboration across the industry is vital to achieve this. The IMI works with educators, adult guardians, schools, and students to identify the immense career opportunities available in automotive. The Autotech Group provides a valuable pathway for newly qualified college leavers in securing their first automotive job. Now both organisations are uniting with The Automotive School of Thought to directly connect school-age children, schools, and guardians with employers.

At the heart of the initiative is the mission to give young people meaningful, hands-on workplace experience, at the same time creating a talent pipeline for employers to plug the skills gap.

The new partnership will facilitate the initial introduction between an automotive employer offering a work placement opportunity and pupils, schools, and guardians, capitalising on the resources of the IMI, including its Jobs website, and the industry connections of the Autotech Group. It will also showcase the automotive sector as an exciting career route, to change perceptions amongst young people before they enter further education.
