The YHA England and Wales hostel we stayed in this week (and last year) closed it's doors for the final time today and we were the last-ever group booking to stay!
The building was the last remaining YHA hostel within Dartmoor National Park and it had been open since 1934 so this really was an end-of-an-era moment.
Whilst one pupil said, "It just feels really sad that there won't be any more guests, it's a really nice building." a member of the hostel staff said "I think it's really appropriate that the last group ever to stay here is a group of school children."
To commemorate this historic moment, our pupils and staff posed for a selfie outside the building with the hostel staff before leaving for the last time. This photo will also be shared with the Museum of Dartmoor Life for their archive.

That's a wrap on our Y6 Devon residential! A fantastic four days of new places and new experiences with a wonderful group of children and it was an absolute pleasure to have them complimented multiple times by members of the public for their manners and kindness. Here's just a snapshot from each day with more photos to come in the leavers' montage at the end of term. ๐
