Well the heat and drought still prevail and we thankfully have been able to use the additional 1000 litres of stored rainwater in the ibc we installed last year for the insectivores while the succulents, if anything have shown resilience and better colour.
We have though needed to cut down on perennials, but have managed to grow or buy in drought resistant varieties and will have these for sale at the Kington vintage show this Saturday. (some really good Echinaceas).
In addition we have gone big on jam and pickle production this year. As always mostly our own fruit and veg goes in, the jams are low in sugar so lovely and fruity !
We are fortunate in that our nursery, although small is on the site of what was a fruit farm, growing mainly plums and damsons and these still self seed and grow easily in the Herefordshire clay. They dont seem to have been affected at all by the drought except for ripening early, and the quality is good.
So hope to see you lovely people at Kington vintage show on Saturday - the forcast is good 😎
