It has been so pleasing to be able to hand out our Special Achievement Awards to well deserving students in our Celebration Assemblies this week.

Many students have been recognised for consistently doing the right thing in and out of lessons, making positive contributions to the school community.

Well done to all.

🥾🌧️ Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Success! 🌧️🥾

This weekend, 15 of our Year 9 pupils successfully completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award qualifying expedition – and what an achievement it was!

Working in three independent teams, pupils navigated approximately 14 miles over two days through the Herefordshire countryside, travelling from Queenswood Country Park to Aylestone School, using only maps and compasses to find their way. Along the route they carried all of their own equipment, pitched their own tents, cooked their own evening meals and demonstrated fantastic teamwork, resilience and determination.

Despite some rain, spirits remained high throughout the expedition. The pupils were a credit to themselves, their families and our school, showing maturity, kindness, and perseverance every step of the way.

For those unfamiliar with the Duke of Edinburgh Award, it is a nationally recognised programme that helps young people develop confidence, independence, and teamwork through volunteering, learning new skills and expedition challenges.

We are incredibly proud of all 15 participants and hope their success inspires even more pupils to take part next year.

And the most important lesson learned from the weekend?

Over half term, One of our Year 7 boys took on an incredible challenge — climbing a total of 8,848 metres across nine days. He did this by scaling an 8-metre indoor climbing wall more than 1,100 times!

He set himself this goal to raise money for Mind, and has managed to raise over £2,000, which is absolutely fantastic. His achievement has even been featured in an a BBC news article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx21zwvglx2o.

He’s shown real determination (and is understandably a bit tired today!).

We, as a School, are very proud of him!! Well Done
