Excited to share that I’m a volunteer judge for 500 Words this year!

It’s been an absolute joy diving into the creative, heartfelt, and sometimes wonderfully quirky stories submitted by talented young writers. The imagination and passion shine through in every entry, and it’s inspiring to see how much thought goes into crafting these mini masterpieces.

Whether focusing on equivalent fractions or working out how to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers, fraction circles are a great visual for my students.

Lots of children find writing really daunting. I have found writing on a whiteboard really helps, mistakes can be rubbed out quickly and you get to use different coloured pens!

One of my students, a reluctant writer in year 3, has done really well using most of the literary techniques they have been focusing on. I particularly like, ‘The teal-blue sea was as calm as a sleeping cat’.
A great piece of writing and a fabulous start to the year!

A recent review from a parent which was posted on a tutoring website.

Ann has been transformative. She is patient, perceptive and genuinely caring. She has very good understanding of children and the process of education. She believes in a holistic approach to learning. She is wise and worldly but still down to Earth and realistic. She aims to tailor the experience of learning to the individual. She gives honest and comprehensive feedback.
My daughter who has (I’d like to now say ‘had’) anxiety about learning especially in maths, has grown in confidence and demonstrates more aspiration in every sense of the word. She is very happy learning with Ann and looks forward to lessons. She tells me that Ann is one of the best teachers she has ever had and feels safe to make mistakes and learn from them in her presence. My daughter’s class teacher has also noticed a difference in her- apparently she is far more vocal and interactive in class.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Ann and I hope she will be able to continue further this educational journey with my daughter.

I love tutoring and generally it is with children 1-1, however, one of the highlights of my week is the creative writing class I teach for home educated children. The ideas that bounce around the room are really inspiring and quite often hilarious. Below are their latest stories with some great setting descriptions which is what we have been focusing on.

I am running an introduction to algebra course for primary school children aged 9-11 years (year 5 and 6).
This is a lovely way to learn algebra! Using physical manipulatives to solve the equation through the use of 'legal moves'.
In just a few lessons your child will be able to solve equations such as
2x + x + x + 2 = 2 x + 14
Every child I have taught algebra to have loved learning this way. It makes a high quality maths experience accessible and gives children a good foundation knowledge before secondary school.
The six week course will take place face to face following Government guidelines for OOSS (out of school settings).
Day: Sunday
Location: Hendon NW4
Time: 10.30 -11.30
Price: £12.50 per lesson
Spaces: 4
Please be in touch for specific dates.
1:1 also available.

I have been tutoring a reluctant writer (and reader), we have worked hard on adding description in writing. So impressed with his efforts, 'A plague of piercing drops of rain launched an attack on the unprotected beach'.....beautiful! Can't wait to read more.
