But progress doesn’t always look the way we expect it to.

🎒 Is your child ready for September? 💛

The summer holidays can fly by, and before we know it, we’re back to school!
For some children, September can bring excitement, but for others it can bring uncertainty, anxiety and lots of change. A little preparation now can make a BIG difference.

Here are some things you could start thinking about:

✨ Re-establishing routines
✨ Talking about what to expect
✨ Practising independence skills
✨ Preparing for sensory needs
✨ Using visuals, social stories or communication supports
✨ Talking through worries and feelings
✨ Sharing important information with school
✨ Checking EHCPs and support plans are up to date
✨ Celebrating strengths and building confidence

And remember — you don’t need to do everything at once! Start with what your child needs most and take it one step at a time. 💛

Every child is different, so preparation should be personalised to them.

📚 WHAT IS AN EHCP?

If you’ve ever looked at an EHCP and thought “Where do I even start?” — you’re definitely not alone!

An Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) is a legal document designed to identify a child or young person’s special educational needs and set out the support they require to help them achieve their outcomes.

But understanding the different sections, knowing what should be included and making sure your child’s needs are accurately reflected can feel overwhelming.

One of the most important things to remember is that an EHCP should be personalised to your child. It should tell their story, identify their needs and clearly set out the provision they require.

💛 A little update from SENDwise…

After what has been a wonderfully busy few months supporting so many amazing families, it’s now time for me to take a little break.

I’m off to get married 🤍💍 and enjoy some much-needed time away a family holiday!

During this time, I’ll be stepping away from work to fully enjoy this special chapter. You are still welcome to email me, but please be aware that emails may not be picked up until I return on 12th August.

I’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported SENDwise, trusted me to be part of your journey, recommended my services, or simply followed along. Your support truly means the world to me.

Every SEND journey looks different.

For some families, it starts with a gut feeling that something isn’t quite right.

For others, it’s navigating assessments, waiting lists, school meetings or the EHCP process.

There will be moments of uncertainty, frustration and overwhelm. There will also be moments of progress, pride and hope.

💛 Hello, I’m Keira – the founder of SENDwise!

I thought it was about time I properly introduced myself to those who are new here (and reintroduced myself to those who have been following my journey for a while!).

I’m a qualified teacher, SENCO and SEND Consultant with over 10 years of experience supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Throughout my career, I’ve worked across mainstream and specialist settings, supporting families, schools and professionals to ensure children receive the understanding and support they deserve.

So, what is SENDwise?

SENDwise was created to make the SEND journey feel less overwhelming.

Whether you’re concerned about your child’s development, trying to navigate the EHCP process, preparing for a school meeting, applying for DLA, or simply don’t know where to turn next, SENDwise is here to provide clear, honest and personalised support.

Being a SEND parent often means becoming a researcher, coordinator, advocate, educator and emotional support system all at the same time.

It’s exhausting.
It’s overwhelming.
And sometimes it can feel like nobody truly understands just how much you’re carrying.
