Be patient with yourself, you’re learning something new.
When we begin Pilates we are combining motor learning, body awareness and mind-body coordination. We are quite literally creating new neural pathways!
Not only are we creating new patterns within the brain and body but we’re also weakening old ones (release grip, shoulders up to the ears, arching the back- you may have heard of some of those😉)
But the thing is with us, we want to be good at things right away and when we’re not we put ourselves down or don’t feel good about ourselves or think it’s just us that doesn’t “get it”. But that’s not true, it’s all of us and this is part of learning. The first step is actually trying. Then it’s practice. And that’s exactly what you’re doing with every class, practicing. Practising connecting with yourself - mentally and physically, practicing intentionally breathing, practicing mind and muscle connection, practicing balance and coordination, practicing movements and exercises. With every class you deepen your practice and with consistency you will see and feel the improvements. You will also realise the practice never stops, we’re always learning and growing in our Pilates practice and you’ll notice as this happens for you your connection with yourself just continues to deepen.
It’s actually an amazing feeling, if you’re new to Pilates you may not understand this feeling yet but if you continue on you will know exactly what I’m talking about.
Keep going 😊
