๐Ÿ’™ Confidence grows when people are given the opportunity to thrive.

We're proud to share this inspiring reflection from a Route2Work student about their journey of personal growth, resilience and friendship. ๐ŸŒŸ

"My first year I was timid, I wasn't confident in my abilities, and I was terrified of making a mistake. But over time I learned to be more confident, more forgiving to myself and being great at making friends."

โญ Amphitheatre Performance โญ

One of the highlights of the year is seeing Route2Work learners take to the stage at South Shields Amphitheatre as part of the celebrations for Learning Disability Week. Alongside a variety of groups showcasing music, dance and entertainment, our learners had the opportunity to share their talents with the community.

Representing Route2Work were a solo guitarist, a singing duet, a pair of MCs, and a four-piece band performing one of their original tracks. It takes dedication, practice, skill and plenty of courage to step onto a stage and share your creativity with an audience, and every one of our performers was absolutely fantastic!

We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the confidence, talent and passion they demonstrated throughout the event. ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒŸ

โšฝ Penalty Shoot-Out Challenge โšฝ

Our football skills were put to the test at the Learning Disability Week Penalty Shoot-Out at Boldon Community Association!

Participants practised their footwork, sharpened their kicking skills and took aim at the goal in a fun and friendly challenge. It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved, giving it their best shot and cheering each other on.

๐Ÿ‘ Well done to everyone who stepped up and took part!

โญ Looking back on Learning Disability Week 2026 โญ

We were back at The Word, South Shields for the LD Week Disco. And one thing we can promise, there'll never be an empty dance floor at this event! We partied with our friends from other organisations in South Tyneside including AutismAble, Arts4Wellbeing and Holder House C.I.C (to name a few)

On Tuesday, learners took part in a fantastic Mini Triathlon at Haven Point, with opportunities to get involved in cycling, swimming and walking.

It was wonderful to see everyone taking part, challenging themselves and having fun throughout the day. To celebrate their efforts and achievements, all participants received a certificate.

๐Ÿ‘ Well done to everyone who took part!

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Let the World Know | Learning Disability Week 2026 ๐Ÿ“ข

Following inspiring contributions from speakers representing groups across South Tyneside, Door-to-Door Poet Rowan McCabe- Poet shared a powerful poem written during the event, inspired by everything he had heard throughout the day.

Reflecting the theme "Let the World Know", Rowan beautifully captured the voices, experiences and messages shared, creating a moving tribute that truly summed up the spirit of the event.

๐Ÿ’™ Thank you, Rowan, for helping us amplify these important stories and celebrate the strength, talent and contributions of people with learning disabilities.

As part of Learning Disability Week last month, our team attended the annual Letโ€™s Connect networking event.

Last year, one of our members, Lexie, launched the Letโ€™s Connect meetings with the hope they would become an annual opportunity for organisations and professionals to come together, share the amazing work they are doing, discuss the challenges they are facing, and explore how services can better support one another.

Weโ€™re so pleased that this year the event continued, kindly hosted by Route to Work College.

Our Service Manager, Amari, and Lexie had a lovely time meeting new organisations, making new connections, and sharing the work we do at AutismAble. Weโ€™re incredibly proud to see Lexieโ€™s idea continue to grow and bring people together.

Events like these are a fantastic way to strengthen partnerships and create more inclusive opportunities for our community. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒŸ Learning Disability Week 2026 ๐ŸŒŸ

What an incredible week itโ€™s been celebrating Learning Disability Week! Our learners have taken part in a wide range of activities, bringing energy, creativity and joy to every moment. From music and performances to social events and group activities, there has been something for everyone to get involved in and enjoy.

Itโ€™s been fantastic to see so many people coming together, building confidence, expressing themselves and supporting one another. Whether on stage, on the dancefloor or simply joining in with friends, every learner has played a part in making this week truly special.

A huge well done to everyone who took part and helped create such a positive, inclusive and uplifting atmosphere. Hereโ€™s to continuing the celebrations and championing everyoneโ€™s unique talents all year round!

Land learners have been busy harvesting home-grown radishes from the planters they made! It was a plentiful crop and once they were cleaned they were slices up to share with staff and learners. Have you ever tried growing radishes?
