How my piano studio is different to traditional lessons:
🎧 I place listening at the centre
Listening is how sound is received, so it’s ultimately through listening that we refine our art as musicians. I start by training my pupils to listen to their own sound, empowering them to be musically response-able from day 1.
🤲 I teach the body
Playing the piano is a skill. Think of it like a sport - great footballers don’t just happen by kicking a ball around a few times. They are physically conditioned through repetition of movement. I teach particular movements to enable particular sounds. Then we practise and refine them.
🎹 I offer a community
Alongside an individual lesson, your child is part of a group class. This creates musical friendships which support them through the highs and lows of learning the piano in a way that us teachers and parents just can’t.
As an adult pupil you’ll have access to a weekly online play-together and a group chat (Piano Patter YES) where we can share our progress, challenges and cheer each other on.
📲 I support pupils and parents between lessons.
I am on-hand to answer practise questions during the week.
🤍 I create a nurturing environment to support ability development
What is the no.1 thing that intrinsically motivates us to improve a skill?
Answer: the ability we already have.
I celebrate talent through pupil concerts and mark achievement formally with the Suzuki graduation system.
➡️ There are no entry requirements and no exams. There is structure, discipline, patience and love.
