Don't underestimate the power of spelling using magnetic letters or letters like this, in this box!

These seem to be working really well for some of my learners currently. By asking them to use physical letters it means cognitive load is reduced as they are not needing to go through the process of writing -holding a pen, visualising the correct letters, in the correct sequence, and forming the letters correctly, in the correct order.

Magnetic letters would be more tactile, enabling learners to feel the letter shapes too!

Tutors, what do you do about your weak areas? Maths has never been the easiest for me but I passed my maths GCSE about 20 years ago (thanks to Mrs Hicken). Having worked with mainly primary aged learners I've found my maths skills are a bit rusty! Currently refreshing my maths by working through this workbook 😀

I love poetry! Donna Ashworth is a magician with her words—she really gets you right in the feels with all that emotion! Do you have any favourite authors?

How are we all doing this summer holidays? Last week I had a lovely break away in Ayr. Below is a pic of the stunning Culzean Castle which we visited, it had an amazing adventure playground. Have you had chance to have a break? Have you ever visited Ayr? We really enjoyed ourselves and found there was plenty to see and do!

That's right !

➡️ in research by Dr David Lewis it was found that reading for as little as six minutes a day can reduce stress levels by 60% by reducing your heart rate, easing muscle tension and altering your state of mind! 🤯

Maybe that's why I love reading?

I got asked to do another review for the Dyslexia Review Journal and still can't believe it! It's amazing to see my words in print. This time I reviewed the Mission Dyslexia Workbook Trilogy!

Often Gestalt Language Processors will repeat phrases (gestalts) which may appear to be out of context or may not make sense to you, however, it's important to be aware that they often are meaningful to that person. They may be trying to tell you something, asking something or there may be a connection between what is happening and the Gestalt they have learned.

Have you heard of Dekko Comics? They are an ideal addition to your educational resources. Aimed at children aged 8 - 14 year olds, I can see how engaging they are for learners. They are fun and punchy, delivering a good amount of information in an accessible way, including the use of a dyslexia friendly font. The comics are packed with a range of different topics. For example issue one covers Maths, History, Biology, Physics, English, German, and French, as well as a puzzle page! I am not receiving anything for recommending these but I'm well impressed with my first look at issue 1!

Gotta love choppity chop as an engaging quick maths game! There is a leaderboard for sense of achievement, there is fun, and there is challenge in answering questions. As shown in the video, metacognition is supported through the correct answer to the question being shown when it is answered incorrectly.
