Dalesplay Dalesplay is open Monday- Friday 8am- 6pm all year around excluding bank holidays.

Dalesplay is Ofsted registered offering sessional, wrap around childcare, breakfast, after school and holiday workshops for children 0- 14 years old in the dales. Our aim is to provide a safe, stimulating environment for your child to learn and develop in whilst making friends in a homely environment. We offer children 15 hours government funded places flexibly to meet your needs the term following your child's 3rd Birthday and offer childcare for all children aged 0-14 years

This week in the ducklings room we have been developing our fine motor skills by using the pegs with birds on to pick up the pretend worms.
We have explored textures painting on the logs, painted little gnome fairies to put in the garden at home and made bee lanterns. We have done lots of mark making and had lots of fun joining in with sports day. ✍️🎨🪱🦅

It’s been another busy week in the Sunshine’s holiday club. The children having been busy creating with the magnetic shapes making a whole village and trying to create a maze. They have also built a den for the soft toys gathering different resources from around the setting.

Junk box modelling helped us practice our cutting skills and how to hold and carry the scissors safely.

Today we held our sports day. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side but we didn’t let that dampen our spirits and held it inside instead. We had an egg and spoon race, balancing bean bags race, passing the balls between our legs race and an obstacle course which included dressing up. What good fun we had together cheering each other along. After this we enjoyed a picnic lunch.
We noticed this afternoon that the rain had stopped so we went outside to have some running races. Great fun was had by us all and the children were thrilled to receive a medal 🥇 🏆🏃🏃‍♀️

The Dalesplay ladies have undertaken extra training to achieve the Dingley’s Promise mark of achievement!

Dingley’s promise mark of achievement is recognition for early years settings that demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practice, particularly for children with special educational needs and disabilities.

The staff have undergone training to ensure they are meeting the needs of children with SEND and helps them to provide the best learning opportunities for them whilst meeting their individual needs.

In the ducklings room this week we have enjoyed camping in our role play area. We made our own binoculars to look through and made a lantern to help us see in the dark.
We all had fun on circus day hooking ducks, developing our balancing skills on the beam and dressing up in the silly wigs and glasses.
We have had fun cooking and washing up in the mud kitchen and made marks on the big board with the paint brushes and water.
Another fun week has come to the end, we look forward to more adventures next week 🏕️🌳🤹‍♂️🎨🫟

It’s been another busy week here in the Sunshine’s room. We have really enjoyed outside play in this lovely weather. Lots of imagination has been used to create with different resources outside during our play.
We created some colourful masks a head of our circus day and made some lovely bug and rocket wands, practicing our motor skills when using the pens to colour them in.
The circus day skills have continued through the week indoors too. 🎪🐞🎭☀️

Circus Day has been fantastic! 🤡🤡🤹‍♀️🎪

We had bean bag throwing, hula hooping, balloon modelling, plate spinning, walking the high beam, hook a duck, walking on stilts and lots more.

The children enjoyed a circus themed lunch and all choose what they wanted to be for their face painted. They all took home a fiberoptic wand, balloon animal and party blower to continue there fun at home.

We have been developing our gross motor skills, turn taking, counting, colour and shape recognition, and developed our imaginations all through play 🙌

Planning to watch the solar eclipse on Wednesday 12 August? 🌘

There are a few different ways to see it safely – but never look directly at the Sun without proper eclipse glasses.

🥣 Colander
Stand with your back to the Sun and hold the colander so its holes project onto the ground or a piece of white paper. Each hole will create a tiny image of the eclipse. Look at the projection, not AT THE SUN through the colander.

📝 Paper projection
Make a small pinhole in one piece of card and hold it above a second white sheet. The light will pass through the hole and project an image of the eclipse onto the paper below. Again, keep your back to the Sun and don’t look AT THE SUN through the pinhole.

📦 Cereal box viewer
Sunlight enters through the pinhole in the foil and projects an image onto the white surface inside the box. Look through the separate viewing hole to see it.

🕶️ Eclipse-safe glasses
These allow you to look at the Sun safely, but they must meet the ISO 12312-2 standard and be free from scratches, tears or holes. Ordinary sunglasses won’t protect your eyes.

The eclipse also links nicely to our primary science schemes. Pupils learn about the Sun in Year 3 light, before exploring the movement of Earth and the other planets in Year 5 space.

Children should always be supervised when viewing an eclipse.
