16 October 2026 - Restart a Heart Day

Every year in the UK, around 40,000 people have a cardiac arrest outside hospital, and fewer than 1 in 10 survive. Early CPR can double someone's chance of survival, but access to that help is not equal.

44% of the most deprived areas in the UK have no registered defibrillator, and women are less likely than men to be given CPR by a bystander.

CPR is the same for everyone. In this short video we walk through what to do if someone collapses:

1. Check for danger
2. Check for a response
3. Call 999 and send for a defibrillator
4. Check the airway and breathing
5. Start CPR
6. Use the defibrillator
7. Keep going until help arrives

Doing something is always better than nothing.

💙 Understanding Autism: Beyond the Stereotypes

We recently had the pleasure of delivering a free community talk at Baldock Library in Hertfordshire, helping raise awareness and challenge common misconceptions about autism.

Led by Jenny Stanley, our Lead Autism and Learning Disability Trainer, and Fraser James, our Lived Experience Co-Trainer, the session explored autism, communication and sensory differences, and the importance of recognising everyone's individual experiences and needs.

This year's theme is Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change, and it's a reminder of how much people carry that often goes unseen.

Today, we're thinking of:

- The care workers holding everyone else together
- The unpaid carers who never clock off
- The families waiting to be listened to
- The people receiving support who want to be asked, not told
- People with lived experience, whose voices too often go unheard
- Everyone grieving someone they love

What you carry matters, even when no one sees it. Today, we see you.

If you're struggling, please reach out to someone you trust. You can call Samaritans free on 116 123, any time, day or night.

And if you can, check in on someone today. A small moment of kindness can mean more than you know.

It’s been a busy 2026 at 1Stop Training, and we’re incredibly proud of what our team has achieved so far.

This year, we’ve delivered 300+ training sessions, supporting more than 5,000 health and social care professionals through the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training and our wider range of health and social care courses.

But behind those numbers are the people who make the training happen – our trainers and co-trainers, the organisations we work with, and of course, everyone who takes part in our sessions.

It’s been particularly lovely to look back at what learners have told us. From growing in confidence, to finding sessions engaging, useful and informative, their feedback is a really important part of how we continue to develop what we do.

Looking to complete the Tier 1 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism? We have spaces available on our upcoming live online webinar.

- Tuesday 22 September 2026

Tier 1 is designed for people who need a general awareness of learning disability and autism as part of their role. This one hour interactive webinar forms the second part of Tier 1. Learners must complete the free Part 1 e-learning before attending.

✓ During the session, learners hear directly from people with lived experience of autism and learning disability, alongside a facilitating trainer, bringing the learning to life through real experiences and perspectives.

✓ Experienced facilitating trainers with occupational experience across health and social care, helping to contextualise the learning and relate it to real-life practice.

✓ Quality-assured training – 1Stop Training is quality assured by Skills for Care and the Department of Health and Social Care for the delivery of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training.
