Itโ€™s always a great experience exploring architectures with our students. Itโ€™s an opportunity to share views, experience places and sketch ideas. We visited two great examples of retrofitted buildings in London, which are a great inspiration for our semester A brief โ€œRetrofit First!โ€ This brief challenges our students to gain an invaluable knowledge about the existing building stock and build the tools to improve what exists before wasting greenfields.
Yes, we in Hertfordshire are really next door to the capital!

The first stop was the Design Museum, where we understood how the work of OMA, Allies and Morrison and John Pawson reimagined an already interesting building. We tried to decode the secrets of the well-proportioned atrium by sketching its section.

The second stop was Battersea Power Station, where we had two exceptional guides, James Barrington and Marco Corrazza. They are two architects from Wilkinson Eyre who worked through all the retrofit project. James and Marco, your stories and insights were wonderful and inspired our students!

Final day of the summer school "Shaping Tomorrow's Latina"! The work produced by the design groups was impressive. The two sites were reimagined through projects that open new questions and allow the city to reflect on its possible future scenarios. Our guest critics Paola Galante from the University Federico II of Naples and Cristina Pallini from Politecnico di Milano helped us to reflect on the work we have done. We all enjoyed the days in Latina and we wish this summer school would never end. We are going back to UK with a wider understanding of architecture and urban design as disciplines that touch on the different layers of a city and community. We thank our new friends from Latina and this is a see you soon rather than a bye! .latina

Day 4 of our "Shaping Tomorrow's Latina" summer school and the energy is palpable! We've been hard at work, finalizing our projects for Friday's presentation. This afternoon, we took a break to visit the archives of the Casa dell'Architettura di Latina. As we poured over the original drawings, we couldn't help but feel inspired. It's amazing how much we can learn from the past. Stay tuned for more updates! .latina

Day 3 of the "Shaping Tomorrow's Latina" workshop was a blast! We took a break from the studio activity to explore and get inspired by the attractions around the city. We visited the incredible Giardini di Ninfa, a natural monument that features a medieval village and a botanical garden. We also enjoyed the beauty of Parco Fogliano, a nature reserve that hosts a variety of wildlife and plants. And we couldn't miss the chance to see Sabaudia, a coastal town that boasts stunning beaches and architecture. At the end of the day, we closed with the exhibition of Alessandro Bavari's "Latina Cittร  invisibile", a fascinating project that combines photography, digital art, and music to create a visionary representation of Latina. It was an amazing experience that filled us with creativity and inspiration. Thank you to all the participants and organizers for making this workshop possible! cittร invisibile .latina

Day 2 of "Shaping Tomorrow's Latina" Summer School was a whirlwind of creativity and innovation. We dove headfirst into design, with ideas, drawings, and concepts springing to life on paper. ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ“

The day culminated in a dynamic brainstorming session and presentation with all the groups and the scientific committee. It was inspiring to see the interesting ideas start to take shape. ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿง

Carlo Miccio wrapped up the day with an insightful talk about the multilayered anthropological nature of Latina, drawing parallels with the urban characters of the city we've been observing. ๐Ÿ™๏ธ๐Ÿ”

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to shape the future of Latina! .latina

Day 1 of the Shaping Tomorrowโ€™s Latina Summer School was nothing short of intense and inspiring! ๐ŸŽ“๐ŸŒž

We kicked off with a press conference, followed by an audio-guided tour of the city. The survey of the design sites gave us all a glimpse into the future weโ€™re shaping. ๐Ÿ™๏ธ๐Ÿ”

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the fantastic conference by Paolo Gruppuso. His insights left us all enriched and eager for more. ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ๐Ÿ’ก

As we wrap up the day, itโ€™s heartening to see our students and staff immersing themselves in the creative mood around the School. The city is not just our classroom, but also our muse. ๐Ÿซ๐ŸŽจ
