Getting ready to go teaching is no mean feat and can take several days. Preparing fabric, cleaning tools, making samples, templates and packing everything is time consuming but it also gives me a chance to have a sort out and tidy.
I always look forward to seeing old and new friends, and sharing so much of all that I know is really important as well as having fun and great conversations.

Breakfast every day with the birds is a joy.
I feed them worms and fat balls, and leave out many bowls of water around the front and back of my garden for them to bathe in and drink from. Shallow ones for the insects and small birds. Wildlife has really struggled in this hot weather and water can be a matter of life and death.

Using old heritage methods of shaping combined with my invented methods makes an old craft enter the 21st century. Craft needs to move on and gather new ways of making to become personal and also pushing ideas on.

I like to share my ideas and also lay them open to be moved on again to their new custodian.

I’m excited to soon (hopefully) welcome my new assistant Zara Kesterton who has recently completed a PhD in the history of flower making. She fits so perfectly in to my world, such a clever and lovely girl. We will be able to help each other and it feels right to pass on my skills.
