At Little Darlings Nursery, we use the power of mealtime modeling to help our children develop independent eating habits. By sitting and enjoying meals together, our little ones learn to use cutlery, try new foods, and build confidence in a calm, supportive environment.
Every meal is a learning opportunity, and every small step counts! 🍱🥗🥤

Little Darlings Nursery
A family-centered children's nursery run from the comfort of our warm & welcoming, yet impressively-
We are a home-based pre-school setting in Harrow, west London. Although childminding from home, our setting has facilities more like a nursery. This gives parents confidence that their child is receiving the best of both types of early education – homely and professional. More recently, we have started to incorporate the Forest School ethos into the setting. This is a great illustration of our pas
The "No!" that makes us smile.

Children helped unload and carry the eggs before taking one home. This simple experience supported cooperation, turn-taking, safe handling and a sense of responsibility, while also creating a warm and enjoyable seasonal moment.
Happy Easter everyone

Little hands, big thinking!
Children helped move newly delivered salt blocks into their storage area. Some lifted and carried, while others quickly adapted - dragging the blocks instead when they felt too heavy.
Real learning happens when children are trusted with real tasks.

“If you go down to the woods today…”
You’ll find explorers, storytellers, climbers and problem-solvers. Outdoor learning nurtures imagination, resilience and confidence.. all through play, fresh air and a little bit of mud.

You may have seen viral posts claiming that a capsicum (pepper) with 3 lobes is “male” and less sweet, while one with 4 lobes is “female” and sweeter.
* It sounds scientific
* It sounds convincing
* But it simply isn’t true
Capsicums do not have genders in the way the internet suggests. The number of lobes has no relationship to sweetness or taste.
So what does affect flavour?
* The variety of the capsicum
* How ripe it is when harvested
* Its freshness and storage conditions
A red capsicum is sweeter than a green one because it has ripened longer - not because it has four lobes. Taste is about plant biology, not social media myths.
Why does this matter?
In a world where information spreads instantly, it is easy for myths to travel faster than facts. As adults, we have a responsibility to pause and ask:
* Who said this?
* Is there evidence?
* Does it make biological sense?
* Can I verify this from a reliable source?
At our nursery, we actively nurture these early foundations of critical thinking. Even with our youngest children, we encourage:
* Curiosity
* Questioning
* Investigating
* Testing ideas
* Learning through real experiences
Whether children are exploring vegetables in our home corner, planting seeds, or investigating how foods change when cooked, we guide them to think beyond assumptions.
Critical thinking is not a “secondary school skill.” It begins in the Early Years.And sometimes… it starts with a capsicum.
If you found this helpful, share it - and next time you shop for vegetables, choose for freshness and variety… not the number of lobes!

We’re delighted to share some wonderful news from the Little Darlings Nursery team! Sanjay has successfully completed a The CPD Standards Office Master Trainer course, a professional qualification that strengthens his ability to deliver high-quality training and support to our staff team.
This achievement means we can now provide in-house, up-to-date training that is consistent, practical, and closely linked to the real needs of our children and staff. It allows us to continually raise standards across the nursery and ensure everyone is confident, knowledgeable, and working to the highest level of practice.
Check his interview with Amanda Rosewarn, CEO, Chair & Co-founder The CPD Standards Office https://www.instagram.com/reel/DUu-txiiJg2/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
How this benefits our nursery community:
* Staff receive regular, high-quality professional development
* Training can be tailored to the needs of our children
* Stronger understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and child development
*More confident and skilled practitioners supporting your children every day
For the children, this means an environment where adults are well-trained, reflective, and continually improving their practice—helping to create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating space where every child can thrive.
We’re very proud of this achievement and the positive impact it will have on our team and the children we care for. Please join us in congratulating Sanjay on this important milestone by liking, sharing and commenting!
Embracing the mud part 1 🦊
From the warmth of the fire to peeling and tasting roasted chestnuts, children explored a seasonal Forest School experience using all their senses.
Through talking about what they could see, smell, and feel, they developed communication and language skills. Peeling the shells strengthened fine motor control, while sharing the activity together supported personal, social and emotional development.
These meaningful moments of learning through play help build confidence, curiosity, and lasting positive memories.
