Play and Routine to Communicate with Kids

This page is designed for parents to support their children’s speech, language and communication skills in the home setting, using play and routine. In this current climate children’s opportunities have been significantly reduced, we do not go out as much to explore the world, which creates opportunities to develop social skills and language.

📚📚 School Readiness Week 📚📚

This is always one that takes a lot of effort - role play, turn taking games and conversations will all help. Sharing is not something that comes easy to us humans 😂 so be patient with your little ones and role model it as much as you can.

Reading and writing is always a concern but remember your children are just starting on their literacy journey - lots of mark making and try to make stories and rhymes as interactive as possible. The rest will follow 💪🏽

📚📚 School Readiness Week 📚📚

Eating and drinking is always one area which us parents worry about. Practice practice practice is the key with utensils, don’t worry about the mess - it’s all part of the fun.

📚📚 School Readiness Week 📚📚

Today our focus is on oral communication - lots of focus on this through play would be our recommendation. Listen out for what your children are saying during play and take their lead to expand the conversation.

📚📚 School Readiness Week 📚📚

This week we’re focusing on school readiness and kicking off the series with self care and independence today.

Patience and practice are the key - we’re all guilty of being in a rush to get out of the door and so we tend to finish off tasks such as buttoning coats. fastening shoes etc … if at all possible, try and encourage your children to do these tasks.

How’s self care and independence working out in your home?

One of the things we’re really passionate about is arming children with strategies to deal with any situation they find themselves in.

We believe very strongly in children being able to take risks (the cognitive kind not the physically dangerous ones!) and learning from them.

To put this into context, our clients are encouraged through play to indicate what they wish to do, to try something different, to push a few boundaries - there are no adverse consequences to any of these … it enables them to become resilient to whatever challenges life may throw at them.

Armed with a map and a desire to find Morph statues in London, Nandita and her children went on an adventure this week - all 3 have questionable map reading skills, varying degrees of stamina and focus but off they trot.

The tubes were super delayed, the weather was iffy and obviously they got lost many times. Getting lost was part of the adventure, the kids had to take a few risks, they were flexible in adjusting their thinking and they showed resilience when the statues were not where they expected. All in all a great day out (snacks saving the day on many occasions!).

Meet the PARC Team!

📌 Sunita has had her own independent Speech & Language Practice since 2005. She has supported and trained NHS departments & education settings nationally with families from diverse communities. She has extensively supported children and families with assessment and intervention, giving the gift of communication. Helping them support and understand their child’s needs, working with the child and their environment holistically.

Sunita’s enthusiasm about children’s communication development and the opportunities this can unlock is infectious.

📌 Dipaley’s journey into speech & language therapy started when she needed help in developing her daughter’s skills. She was so inspired by Sunita that she retrained and now runs her own Speech and Language Practice.

Working with her little girl has taught Dipaley so much about parenting a neurodivergent child and she’s eager to help other parents in different forms of natural therapies to enable them to meet their children’s needs.

📌 Nandita has been delivering research based sensory development programmes for babies, toddlers and pre-school children since 2016. Her passion has always been about laying the best possible foundations for children to thrive and this has always been through play & routine.

In 2023 Nandita successfully completed the Learning Language & Loving It programme from the Hanen Centre and can’t wait to share strategies with parents and early educators to helping children with their development.

We can’t wait to meet you and your children!
