St Hilda's School Harpenden

St Hilda's School Harpenden Independent day school for girls aged 3 - 11 in beautiful Harpenden location.

Welcome to St Hilda’s, a vibrant, happy community where every pupil is valued for their individuality and where all strive to achieve the very best that they can. Our pupils receive a first-class education in our new facilities, which encompass a huge range of experiences across a very varied and creative curriculum. Academic rigour, coupled with carefully differentiated and independent learning,

allows each pupil to maximise their potential whilst individual goals and talents are encouraged, stimulated and nurtured. We are a family community and aim to foster the qualities of good manners, respect for others and ourselves. Developing self-confidence and self-worth are very important to us, and our pupils go on to the next stage of their education, and life beyond, fully prepared for the future. Our world is fast changing and we seek to prepare our pupils for this, whilst ensuring they are courteous and
considerate citizens. A child who is happy and
secure in school is one who will thrive and
thereby achieve.

The summer holidays are over. The sports season is officially on.

From netball to hockey, gymnastics, swimming and cross-country, our girls are back in action — and there’s no easing into it!

Our winter sports programme is already in full swing, with lessons and clubs, fixtures on the horizon, and plenty of opportunities for the girls to get moving, get involved and challenge themselves. And for Form VI, the first Run to the Park of their final year has also already been ticked off.

In our winter sports era? Absolutely.

Let’s go, St Hilda’s!

Two very different roles, but both offering the opportunity to play an important part in the life of our school and our girls.

Whether you are passionate about nurturing and educating young children within the Early Years, or you take pride in creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment in which our community can thrive, we would love to hear from you.

Find out more about both roles, and how to apply, via our website:

Today marked a very special first day back for our Form VI girls, as they discovered their roles of responsibility for the year ahead.

Every Form VI girl is entrusted with a leadership role, from House Sports, Arts and Wellness Captains to Library, Hall, Nursery and Reception Prefects. At the heart of this year’s leadership team are our new Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl, who will have the privilege of representing and leading our school community throughout their final year at St Hilda’s.

We are so proud of all our Form VI girls and can’t wait to see the impact they make.

The classrooms are ready. The corridors are waiting. And the countdown is almost over.

Tomorrow, we open the doors on the 136th year at St Hilda’s School and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back.

A particularly exciting morning awaits our new Form VI girls as they collect their position of responsibility badges and officially begin their final year at St Hilda’s.

Best wishes to everyone heading into new classes, and schools, this week. We wish all our girls a wonderful start to the year ahead.

This Autumn, we’re delighted to welcome prospective families to three special events:

Taster Day – A chance for your daughter to spend the day as a St Hilda’s girl.

Fireworks Fun Day – Fun, games and activities for all the family.

Whether you’re just beginning to explore your options or already considering St Hilda’s for your daughter, our family would love to welcome yours.

Come Home to St Hilda's 🕊️

For 135 years, generations of girls have walked through St Hilda's red doors, forming friendships, creating memories and becoming part of a community that lasts long after school days are over.

To celebrate this special milestone, we are delighted to invite our alumni community to our very first St Hilda's School Alumni Event, taking place on Saturday 19th September from 2-5pm.

Whether you left St Hilda's recently or many years ago, we hope you'll join us to reconnect with former classmates, families and staff, rediscover the school, and celebrate the traditions that have made St Hilda's such a special place for 135 years.

To confirm your attendance, please visit the school website: www.sthildasharpenden.co.uk.

We can't wait to welcome you back to your school.

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose." - Dr Seuss

We can't believe it has been a week already since those words from 'Oh, the Places You'll Go!' echoed beautifully through St Nicholas' Church as our school community gathered for this year's Leavers' Service.

Together, pupils, parents, grandparents, siblings and staff paused to give thanks for another remarkable year at St Hilda's. Through heartfelt readings, beautiful singing and thoughtful prayers we celebrated all that has been achieved, whilst also looking ahead with excitement and hope to all that is still to come.

For our Form VI girls, the service marked the close of one chapter and the beginning of another. It was a moment to reflect on friendships made, confidence gained and memories that will stay with them forever.

To our leavers: wherever your next adventure takes you, may you go with courage, kindness and the quiet confidence that will always make you part of the St Hilda's family.

Oh, the places you'll go.
