Oriel Academy, West London Oriel Academy is a two-form entry primary school with a Nursery. We are an Ofsted ‘Good’ school with a number of features judged as ‘Outstanding’.

At Oriel, we nurture our students from Nursery to Year 6 to ensure that they have positive, fulfilling and inclusive experiences whilst with us. Friendship and acceptance are at the heart of our academy, and we pride ourselves on being a culturally diverse school which represents the community that we serve. Students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) are given focused support that enables them to flourish academically and outperform national averages.

Year 6 DT Project.
To kick off our "Natural Disasters : No Limits" half-term, Year 6 became structural engineers last week ! After researching real-world architecture, the children designed, constructed, and evaluated their own earthquake-resistant buildings. Through brilliant collaboration, they achieved an incredible success rate when put to the test.

First year flashback : What is the one thing you did during your first year at school that makes you cringe now ?
Answer: In my first year at secondary school, I dyed my fringe blonde but kept the rest of the hair brown, it wasn't a good look !

Supply Splurge : If you were handed a blank cheque that could only be spent on your classroom/office, what is the first ridiculous thing you would buy ?
Answer: A mannequin in a full suit of ancient Greekhoplite armour, with a rubber safety on the spear.

The Anti-Subject : If you were forced to teach a subject completely outside of your field or comfort zone, which one would you be absolute worst at ?
Answer : Computing : I can type a word document and make a powerpoint, but that's all I was taught at school.

Staff Wardrobe : If you had to wear a uniform to school everyday like a cartoon character, what would your outfit be ?
Answer : I would probably wear a white shirt, grey trousers and my favourite teal tie.... so not much different from what I wear now.

Desk Archaeology : What is the strangest thing hiding at the back of your desk drawers ?
Answer : A ball of resin containing two scorpions that I got in Madagascar when I did conservation work there, dont worry, they don't pinch !

The new year 6 Mentoring Ambassadors have settled into the role very quickly, and are showing the rest of school that they are taking their responsibilites very seriously. They are a shining light amongst their peers and hopefully will be an inspiration to others.

Yesterday, we had a great day celebrating and saying goodbye to the wonderful Year 6s at our leavers picnic. There was music, cake, pizza, ice cream, football, games, tug of war, arts and crafts and bubbles. It was a lovely day.
