Easter Competition

A massive thank you to all the parents and children who contributed to our wonderful Easter Bonnet competition for Reception and the creative boiled egg scenes for KS1 and KS2! The church and teachers had the challenging task of choosing winners, and it was clear that a huge amount of imagination and time went into each and every entry. We were so impressed by the incredible effort, creativity, and detail that went into making these fantastic Easter creations!

Last Friday, the Y5/6 Budbrooke boys football team played a super game. There was some super dribbling, impressive football tactics, creative passing and a stuning equaliser scored in the final few minutes, leaving the score at 2-2. The team did myself and Mr Brereton very proud. Keep it up boys, we are looking forward to the next match.

Maple's Visit to Hatton Country World

Maple Class had a fantastic time on their visit to Hatton Country World, enjoying a day full of fun, learning, and new experiences. The children represented the school brilliantly, and Miss Thorpe and Mrs Lancaster were incredibly proud of their behaviour—especially as it was their very first school trip.

Throughout the day, the pupils loved learning all about farm animals and their babies, discovering how to care for them and understand their needs. They were also fascinated by the chance to learn about different reptiles, including lizards, snakes, and geckos.

A particular highlight for many was holding a guinea pig, which was so popular that we went back to visit them twice! After such a busy and exciting day, the children were amazed when we arrived back at school and it was already home time—time really does fly when you're having fun!

Well done for a brilliant first trip Maple Class, we are very proud of you!

Our Year 5/6 girls football team did Budbrooke so proud in their match on Wednesday 11th March. The girls showed excellent collaboration and worked together so seamlessly. It was an incredible match of football with Budbrooke leading each goal. We saw super defending, attacking, some amazing goals and great goal-keeping. The winning goal went to Barford who won the match 4-3. We are so proud of our team and look forward to each exciting game of football that is to come. Keep it up, girls!

World Book Day Celebrations

Budbrooke Primary School celebrated World Book Day with a fantastic day full of reading, creativity and fun. This year’s celebration was especially exciting as it linked with the National Year of Reading theme, encouraging everyone to discover the joy of books and storytelling.

As part of the campaign “Go All In”, the children were encouraged to fully immerse themselves in reading. Classes took part in a variety of activities, including shared reading sessions, book discussions, visiting the library, as well as designing book tokens and bookmarks. The aim was to remind everyone that reading of stories, poems, recipes, comics amongst others can open doors to imagination, knowledge and new ideas and that reading can be done anywhere.

Another exciting part of the celebration was seeing the children’s amazing costumes. Children and staff came dressed as their favourite book characters, and the effort was incredible. From classic fairy-tale characters to modern heroes, the school was filled with colour, creativity and enthusiasm, especially with a variety of Where’s Wally, Harry Potters and other superheroes. It was also wonderful to see so many people proudly sharing the stories they love.

Overall, World Book Day was a huge success. The event helped celebrate the power of reading and brought our school community together through a shared love of books. We look forward to continuing the spirit of the National Year of Reading and encouraging everyone to keep discovering new stories throughout the year.

Chestnut Class Spotlight- February 2026

It has been a very exciting time in Chestnut class. As part of our ‘Misty Mountain, Winding River’ topic, we have been learning about the journey of a river as the water travels from the source, through the upper, middle and lower course and then out to sea. We have looked at the physical features of waterfalls, oxbow lakes, meanders, river deltas and how the water has changed the landscape over time. We have also researched the main uses of rivers and canals which we learnt about when visiting the local Hatton Locks on our school trip.

In English, as part of The Great Kapok Tree unit, we have researched and produced guides to the Amazon Rainforest using sub-headings, paragraphs and amazing facts. We have also debated the arguments for and against cutting down trees in the rainforest and have written a balanced argument. To start our new explanations writing unit, we looked at how a variety of toys work before using the explanation features to explain the water cycle and parts of a rainforest.

In maths, we have been multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 as well as multiplying and dividing 3 digit numbers by a 1-digit number. We have also been measuring in metres and kilometres, finding the perimeter of rectangles and finding the missing lengths of rectilinear shapes.

In science, we have researched the found out about the particle theory and states of matter including the properties of solids, liquids and gases and showcased these in the form of a fantastic dance in PE.

This week in Maple Class, our young learners combined creativity, environmental awareness, and a little Valentine’s magic! ❤️

The children explored how everyday materials like cardboard and plastic can be reused instead of thrown away. We talked about why recycling is important, how it helps protect our planet, and the different ways we can give “junk” materials a brand-new purpose.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the class put their learning into action by designing and building a fantastic junk-modelled heart using recycled cardboard and plastic.

The finished heart looked amazing and proudly carried an important message about caring for both the people we love and the world we share. We were delighted to display our creation in the school office

Well done, Maple Class, for showing that with creativity and teamwork, even recycled materials can be transformed into something truly special! 🌍💖

Children’s Mental Health Week 2026

The children and staff at Budbrooke wore their scarves to school this week to promote children’s mental wellbeing and to celebrate the values of the PSHE SCARF curriculum- Safety, Caring, Achievement. Resilience and Friendship.

The theme this year was “This is My Place” and the children enjoyed taking part in activities where they could display the many ways they feel a sense of belonging and help others feel like they belong.

They completed identity maps which included creative examples of places where they belong and connect such as family, clubs, school, classroom, religious places, spaces they like to spend time in.

The children also wrote acrostic poems where they explored what it feels like to belong and why it is important to be inclusive.

It is also important to be self-aware and to know that it is okay to not feel okay. We talked about the the importance of being true to yourself, doing things that you love and make you happy, being kind to yourself and talking to a trusted adult.

We also promoted the importance of looking after our mental health by connecting with people, being active, taking notice of the world around us and learning new things.

Budbrooke Cross Country – Edmondscote

Budbrooke runners again braved cold, drizzly conditions in the second cross country race of the season.

The Primary Schools league event, which was organised by Leamington Athletics Academy, again took place at Edmondscote Athletics track after recent wet weather and flood warnings at Myton Fields forced the venue change.

Heavy rainfall during the week had made the course a little muddy and presented potential tricky cross country conditions for all the runners.

The 1.4km route took the runners from the starting line of the running track off to the grassy edges around trees around the course twice before a home straight to the finish line.

The sole Budbrooke Year 5 runner for the girls race showed great character and resilience to keep on going and finished in a respectful 39th out of a total of 60 runners.

The Year 5 boys were up next and the quartet supported each other well and spurred each other on during the warm up. It was a very fast start on the sprinting track section of the course. Teddy made a strong start to keep up with the leading pack and showed great determined in the second lap to overcome a stitch. He showed great stamina and overtook a few runners before crossing the line in an impressive 24th place out of 100 runners. The other 3 Yr 5 Budbrooke boys supported each other well and kept their spirits high and finished in 71st , 90th and 91st place.

In the Year 6 girls race, Chairis was in inspirational form and ran a strong race especially on the second lap to come 34th and gain a personal best. Tabitha ran well too and when conditions became muddy and tricky she picked up the pace and equalled her 39th place from the first race. Adyaa also beat her personal best by 10 places to finish in an impressive 54th place.

In the Yr 6 boys race, the runner for Budbrooke had a determined look on his face as he ran the course. He kept on going and maintained his pace throughout to finish in a respectable 37th place in his first race of the season.

Mr Brereton said: “Well done to all the runners who gave their all for Budbrooke. They persevered despite difficult slippery conditions and can all be proud of their efforts and even produced personal bests. It has been a highlight of mine to see the team spirit of those who represent Budbrooke. They make everyone feel welcome and support them by cheering them on and giving out many high-fives. Thank you to all the parents for their support and to Leamington Athletics Academy for organising the event.”

Beech Class recently held an art exhibition, welcoming parents and carers into the classroom to celebrate the children’s creative work. The event was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by our school community.

Mrs Lavelle, Class Teacher and Creative Arts Lead at Budbrooke, said:

“It was wonderful to showcase the children’s artwork, especially as they worked so hard to create it. Beech Class have been fully immersed in their English learning, listening to storm music inspired by Benjamin Britten, which then influenced their artwork. The children used rich adjectives and powerful verbs to describe the scene, and it was lovely to see how proud they were of their finished pieces. We also loved welcoming parents, carers, siblings, and members of the wider community into the classroom to share this creative experience — made even more special by the children singing a piece from our new music curriculum.”

Numbers Day 2026 at Budbrooke Primary School.

To support the NSPCC charity, we took part in celebrating Number Day. Pupils came dressed as a number or as a Times Table Rockstars character!

Fun activities included solving riddles and problem-solving activities to find the ‘Lost Treasure of Number Bay ’ and to make the Magic Number of 15 on a grid as well as the Going for Gold Relay where children had to use their maths skills to answer questions before tagging their team mates to go next.

We also took part in a TTRS competition by completing as many multiplication and division questions as we could!
