Team weekend away: connecting, relaxing, and recharging 🌈

This team has worked incredibly hard throughout this academic year, and it’s been so lovely to take some time out together, unwind, and enjoy some well-earned downtime. Now let’s enjoy a slow August before we welcome back our friends in September 🪺

🌻🐞 Sunflowers & Minibeasts 🐝

Inspired by our story The Nature Trail, celebrating the beauty of gardens and the life within them, we explored nature through art and play.

We painted sunflowers, created collage and clay petals, built bug hotels, completed insect puzzles and explored bug-themed play dough. In the garden, we spotted bees and ladybirds amongst the lavender and used mathematical language to compare our heights with the towering sunflowers. 🌻💛

✨ It’s often the smallest spaces that inspire the biggest imaginations.

No matter how much space is available, our children are always drawn to cosy nooks, hidden corners and little dens. We’ve listened to these observations and, over the last year, created two new nooks—one indoors and one outdoors.

Whether it’s a place for adventure, imaginative play with friends or a quiet moment alone, these spaces have become some of the most loved areas in our setting.

Sometimes, the best environments simply follow the child. 🤎

Tailoring the Environment 🪡

Through observation of play, we plan our provision around children’s interests. We’ve noticed a strong interest in constructing and STEM activities, this invitation to explore supports spatial reasoning, fine motor coordination and creativity while keeping little learners engaged and inspired. HANDS ON LEARNING 🖐️

The children explored colourful potions, colour mixing, capacity and matching activities, building curiosity, fine motor skills and early maths understanding. In the mud kitchen, they enjoyed imaginative role play and teamwork, while the sand and water areas offered plenty of scooping, pouring, digging and sorting fun. Play included balancing, wheeled toys, car play on gravel, ramps and ball-shooting activities, helping to develop gross motor skills, problem-solving and an understanding of cause and effect.
