Childminders are usually considered low risk and not given a Food Hygiene rating.I had an inspection today and said we occasionally do some cooking like make pizza, the Inspector said in that case I would need a rating. Happy to say I was given 5 stars!

We're celebrating the National Year of Reading with 'Join Up January', and over the course of the month we're telling you about all the things our libraries do - some things you'll know, some you may not! Today we're telling you about...Story Explorers!

Story Explorers is our reading club for children aged 0-5. When you sign up, you will receive reading records that will help you and your child keep track of the number of books you've borrowed from Norfolk Libraries. You'll get stickers and certificates at certain milestones along the way.

Plus, if your child manages to read 1000 books by their 6th birthday, they get another certificate and an extra special reward - a gold library card!

If you lose track of your child's reading record, don't worry - staff can check their library account to see where you are up to.

If you're a resident of Norfolk, and you've not joined your local library for free (or haven't been for a couple of years), why not give us a try. You can sign up in your local library, or online right now, here: https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/article/40091/Join-the-library and we'll send a card out to you.

Please feel free to share this post with your nearest and dearest (and get them to join their local library, wherever it is in the world!)

This tweet from Becky, a senior nurse in children's A&E, is a powerful reminder to cut up grapes.

The size and shape of whole grapes means they can completely plug a child’s airway. And the tight seal produced by the grape’s smooth surface makes them difficult to dislodge with standard first aid techniques.

This is why we advise that grapes should be chopped in half lengthways and ideally in quarters.
This is the same for any round food. Anything smaller than a two pence piece can get stuck. So, always think ‘long and thin’ when cutting your small child’s food.

Hoping the Government will listen before more close!!

Nurseries and childminders are closing their doors. Why? Because Government “Free Childcare” funding doesn’t cover the true cost of care.

Unless the funding system changes, parental choice and the future of early years education are at risk.

📢 Early Years Voice is uniting parents and professionals to demand better.
