Today in our Model UN activity, we replicated the work of the ICJ and heard the case brought to the ICJ by Australia in 2010, which argued Japan was conducting commercial whaling under the guise of scientific research.
Over the past two weeks, pupils have researched their given role: as judge, witness or advocate. Pippa's experience of the ICJ at THIMUN was especially helpful and enabled our Model UN cohort to gain valuable insight into how the ICJ works at Model UN conferences!

Today sees that start of the first Conference for Transitioning away from Fossil Fuels being held in Santa Marta, Colombia. The objective of the Conference is to initiate a concrete process through which a coalition of committed countries, subnational governments, and relevant stakeholders can identify and advance enabling pathways to implement a progressive transition away from fossil fuels creating sustainable societies and economies. Happy Earth Day! It just so happens that yesterday, five beavers, a mother and four kits, were released into the wild near Uckfield, living freely in rivers and streams for the first time in 400 years! You can read more about their release here:

The Business and Economics Summer Book Choice is Supremacy by Parmy Olson, a Bloomberg Opinion columnist and a former reporter for the Wall Street Journal and Forbes. Her book, Supremacy, won the Financial Times Book of the Year Award 2024.

She will be joining us in an online Q & A session on Tuesday 28th of April at 1:20pm in the library to talk about her book but more generally about technology and AI, the philosophical and ideological underpinnings of AI Tech Founders, as well as the business, economic, social and geopolitical implications of the sector’s rapid expansion.

As we approach , we are recognising the impact women have made who have come from Sussex. One of those individuals is Margaret Bondfield, Britain's first Cabinet Minister. Although her birthplace was in Somerset, it was in Hove where Margaret became politicised and formed the views that would shape her political career. 🗳

Thank you to Bede's Prep, Skippers Hill Manor Prep School, Holmwood House School, Hazelwood School, Rose Hill School, Cumnor House Sussex, Brambletye, Great Walstead School and Park Mead for attending our Mini MUN event yesterday! It was great to see over of 90 Year 5 & 6 pupils debating issues relating to the UN's sustainable development goals 🌎🌍🌏
