A key focus of our Women’s Circle, co-facilitated by Julia Roberts and myself, was to create a safe space for women to explore empowerment, connection, and self-expression. Women of all ages, from 26 to nearly 70, came together to share their stories, find their voices, and support one another in personal growth. Through movement, meditation, mandalas, sound healing, and a tea ceremony, we fostered a deep sense of connection and reflection, helping attendees reconnect with themselves and each other.

Women’s circles like ours are designed to nurture community, healing, and transformation. The Burpham Yurt was the perfect setting for this gathering, and we’re looking forward to returning. We’re also expanding to new venues, including one we’ve been invited to with beautiful acoustics that will enhance the experience with Yvette’s singing bowls. These circles are more than events - they’re spaces where women can come together, be heard, and find strength in shared sisterhood.

With thanks to everyone who participated and to Paul for the pumpkin!

There are some children born into the world with the incredible life-gift of a strong will & an indomitable spirit. These children are often deeply misunderstood & there are rows of books lining bookstore shelves with instructions about how to break their will, how to subdue their spirit, how to force their obedience. But our world suffers a tragic loss of leadership, passion & insight when parents follow these harsh, punitive practices. Not only can we parent these gifted children with gentleness and respect, but the gifts we get in return are priceless.

Take a look at some of the common descriptions used when referring to the characteristics of a strong-willed child:

Demanding, Insistent, Stubborn, Bossy, Cocky, Difficult, Challenging, Fixated, Contrary, Rebellious, Defiant

Now look at some of the common characteristics of adults who are world leaders, CEO’s, entrepreneurs, innovators, athletes:

Decisive, Determined, Persistent, Authoritative, Confident, Valiant, Gutsy, Committed, Resourceful, Nonconforming, Bold

Note that the characteristics are the same, but are negative when applied to a child & positive when applied to an adult.

Other characteristics of strong-willed children that coincide with adult leaders:

•highly creative & intelligent
•passionate & intense in their interests & beliefs
•insatiable need to know ‘why’
•typically learn by doing
•intense need to test the status quo
•highly perfection-oriented (often focused on expectations of themselves instead of others)
•tend to need high levels of validation
•intense need to be heard
•strong need for emotional safety
•often resistant to change unless they feel some control over the change
•often highly sensitive
•typically intensely focused on their latest project/interest
•conscientious/highly committed
•highly independent

Maintaining a healthy parent/child relationship is vital as you work to find a balance between setting limits with your richly spirited child while not limiting their freedom to grow into who they were meant to be.

When do you think “midlife” begins?

“I think midlife is when the Universe gently places her hands upon your shoulders, pulls you close, and whispers in your ear:

I’m not screwing around. It’s time. All of this pretending and performing – these coping mechanisms that you’ve developed to protect yourself from feeling inadequate and getting hurt – has to go.

Your armour is preventing you from growing into your gifts. I understand that you needed these protections when you were small. I understand that you believed your armor could help you secure all of the things you needed to feel worthy of love and belonging, but you’re still searching and you’re more lost than ever.

Time is growing short. There are unexplored adventures ahead of you. You can’t live the rest of your life worried about what other people think. You were born worthy of love and belonging.

Courage and daring are coursing through you. You were made to live and love with your whole heart. It’s time to show up and be seen”

In the heart of every mother lies the power to ignite transformation, turning challenges into opportunities for growth.
It’s true, we don’t always have all the answers.
Yet, amid adversity, there lies possibility for progress.
Let’s focus on the bright side, the light that guides us on.
Take a moment to breathe, to reflect, and to nurture our own child within as we navigate all stages of motherhood.
You’ve got this.

These peanut butter protein balls are high in energy and useful on-the-go snacks. They take less than 5 minutes to make, can be mixed in a bowl, are easily combined with lots of other random to-hand ingredients and you don’t need to bake.
