๐ŸŒฑ A day of practical, hands-on learning! ๐Ÿง๐Ÿ“š

Today we started the day in the garden, turning over the soil in two planters and preparing them for a new season of planting. ๐ŸŒฟ

We then brought maths to life with a practical lesson using our allotments. We measured perimeter and area, planned how we could use the space for our next crops, and used our gardening project to practise addition, multiplication and division. It was a great way to see how maths has a real purpose in everyday life! ๐Ÿ“โž—โœ–๏ธโž•

For English, we travelled back in time by reading newspaper articles from 1955 and comparing them with an article on the same subject written 71 years later. We explored the structure and key elements of newspaper articles, dissected the language used, and discussed how writing styles and reporting have changed over time. ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐Ÿ”Ž

And, of course, we couldnโ€™t finish the day without some baking! We made delicious apple crumble muffins โ€” combining practical skills, following instructions and a little creativity in the kitchen. ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿง

Another day full of curiosity, real-world learning and plenty of hands-on experiences! ๐ŸŒฑโœจ

Today was one of those wonderfully unpredictable days where learning happened everywhere! โ˜”๏ธ๐Ÿงก

The children embraced the rain and had a brilliant game of hide and seek, before taking the fun indoors and continuing the game around the museum! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ”Ž

We then created our very own scavenger hunt, and the children became completely immersed in the challenge. They spent a long time searching, solving clues and working together โ€” fantastic opportunities for problem-solving, communication and teamwork ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

๐Ÿš— STEM time brought another challenge as we explored vehicles, experimenting, testing ideas and thinking about how things work.

๐ŸŽจ We also headed outdoors for a nature-inspired art project, using sticks, pine cones and other natural materials to create our very own woodland creatures. ๐Ÿฆ‰๐Ÿฆ”๐ŸฆŠ

A lovely day of play, exploration, STEM, creativity, teamwork and connection with nature โ€” exactly the kind of hands-on learning we love! ๐ŸŒณโœจ

Today was such a lovely start to our term, with plenty of hands-on learning, creativity and time outdoors.

๐Ÿ… Gardening: We started the morning at the allotment and picked over 50 tomatoes, potatoes, carrots and peppers. A perfect opportunity to learn about growing food, seasons and where our food comes from.

๐Ÿ“š History: We travelled back to 1920s America and learned about the Jim Crow Laws, exploring what life was like during this period and beginning to understand the social and historical context behind segregation.

๐Ÿš Creative learning: We then got creative making beautiful decorative seashells.

๐ŸŽต Music: Our afternoon included a music lesson, giving us a chance to develop our groovy tune skills and creativity with rhythms.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Movement: After lunch, we took a movement break to get our bodies moving and reset before our afternoon learning.

๐Ÿ“ Maths outdoors: We finished the day with maths outside, learning about perimeter and area by measuring our planters. A great example of how maths can come to life when we take learning outside!

A busy day, but a brilliant one โ€” and a lovely reminder that learning really can happen anywhere, everywhere and through almost anything. ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒฟ What a term it has been! ๐ŸŒฟ

As we come to the end of another wonderful term, weโ€™re taking a moment to look back at everything our children have experienced, discovered and achieved. ๐Ÿ’š

From building and growing our own gardens ๐ŸŒฑ to exploring parks, London and the River Thames, this term has been full of adventure, curiosity and hands-on learning.

The children have enjoyed boat rides, investigating the Thames, museums, art galleries and an amazing range of field trips, including a very special behind-the-scenes aquarium tour at the Horniman Museum ๐Ÿ  , workshops at two farms and a visit to London Zoo ๐Ÿฆ.

Weโ€™ve welcomed guest teachers for science and art, giving the children opportunities to learn from new people, develop new skills and explore subjects in creative and engaging ways. ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ”ฌ

And alongside all the learning and adventures, the children have made friendships, built confidence and created so many wonderful memories together. โค๏ธ

We were also delighted to end the term with a hugely successful summer camp, bringing together a fantastic week of outdoor learning, creativity, exploration and fun. ๐ŸŒฟโ˜€๏ธ

We are incredibly proud of everything the children have accomplished this term and all the curiosity, enthusiasm and creativity they have brought with them each week.

Now itโ€™s time for a well-deserved break! โ˜€๏ธ

We hope everyone has a fantastic summer and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 7th September for another term of learning, exploring and adventures. ๐ŸŒฑโœจ

๐ŸŒฑ From seed to harvest! ๐ŸŒฑ

Our students and community members have been working incredibly hard to care for our community garden allotment, and itโ€™s so rewarding to see that hard work paying off. Weโ€™re now harvesting fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, and corn as our plants come to fruition!

Gardening is about so much more than growing foodโ€”itโ€™s about patience, teamwork, responsibility, and connecting with nature. Every seed planted and every plant cared for has been a shared effort, and weโ€™re proud of what our community has achieved together.

As the summer continues, weโ€™re looking forward to harvesting even more fresh produce and watching the garden continue to thrive. ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿฅ’๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ’š

Today our summer camp children had the wonderful opportunity to explore Warli painting, a beautiful traditional tribal art form from Maharashtra, India. Using simple geometric shapes such as circles, triangles and squares, the children learned how this ancient art has been used for generations to tell stories and celebrate everyday life.

It was wonderful to watch their confidence and creativity grow as they created their own unique Warli-inspired artwork while learning about the history and cultural significance behind this beautiful tradition.

A huge thank you to Aishwarya from for leading such an engaging and inspiring workshop. Your passion, knowledge and encouragement made the session so special, and we are incredibly grateful that you shared this wonderful art form with our campers. It was a fantastic cultural experience that theyโ€™ll remember for a long time.

Thank you again, Aishwarya, for such a memorable morning! ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿค

๐ŸŸ This week, we had the incredible opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Horniman Museum Aquarium.

We spent the morning with one of the museumโ€™s marine biologists, learning about vital conservation work, captive breeding programmesโ€”including baby jellyfish and clownfishโ€”and their ground-breaking coral research.

Led by the museumโ€™s expert aquarists, we explored the delicate balance of aquatic ecosystems and discovered the pioneering Project Coral. We learned about the fascinating life cycle of jellyfish, observed captive breeding in action, and saw the intricate life support systems that help care for species including seahorses, cowfish, and poison dart frogs.

It was a truly unique and inspiring experience, giving us a greater appreciation of the science, care, and conservation work happening behind the scenes. Thank you to the team at the Horniman Museum for such an educational and memorable visit!

๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š Our community garden is thriving, thanks to our wonderful students and local children who have been helping to care for it every step of the way!

Together, weโ€™re growing over 20 different fruits, vegetables, herbs and beautiful wildflowers, learning about nature, teamwork, and where our food comes from.

Yesterday was an exciting milestone as we harvested five courgettes (zucchini) , which we were delighted to share with those who have helped us in the community. Itโ€™s amazing to see all our hard work beginning to pay off, and we canโ€™t wait to enjoy even more of the fruits (and vegetables!) of our labour in the weeks ahead.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported our garden so far. Hereโ€™s to many more harvests and happy memories together! ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ’๐Ÿ“
