Today, we were delighted to welcome 132 Special Gomer Men to school for one of our favourite annual events ahead of Father’s Day this Sunday.
This special occasion gives children the opportunity to spend time in school with an important male figure in their lives, sharing lunch together and creating memories that we hope will last for years to come. We know that every family is different, and it was wonderful to see such a wide range of special people joining us, including dads, stepdads, grandads, uncles, godparents and many others who play an important role in supporting and caring for our children.
The glorious weather certainly helped make the afternoon extra special. After lunch, the field was full of laughter, play and activity as children and their special guests enjoyed spending quality time together. It was lovely to see so many conversations, games and smiles being shared across the school grounds.
We were also pleased to welcome members of the local press, who came to cover the event. Please keep an eye out for our story in the newspaper and on their website in the coming days.
As Father’s Day approaches, we would like to wish all of our families a wonderful weekend. We also recognise that Father’s Day can be a difficult time for some members of our community, and we are thinking of those families for whom this day may bring mixed emotions.

Today, National Thank a Teacher Day, has been a moment for the whole country to stop, reflect, and say thank you to the educators who have made a difference in our lives. At King’s Academy Gomer, we would like to take this opportunity to recognise and thank every member of our staff team. From our class teachers and teaching assistants to our office staff, site team, lunchtime team and wider support staff, each person plays an important role in helping our children learn, grow and succeed.
Every single day, in classrooms, corridors, playgrounds and staff rooms, our team goes above and beyond to support the children in our care. They spark curiosity, build confidence, nurture talents, provide encouragement when things are difficult and celebrate achievements, both big and small. Their commitment, kindness and dedication help to create the warm, caring and ambitious school community that we are so proud of.
Our staff work behind the scenes too – planning lessons, preparing resources, supporting families, attending training, organising opportunities. They do all they can to help every child achieve their very best.
We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the parents and carers who have already taken the time to send messages of appreciation to our staff. These kind words and thoughtful gestures mean so much and are appreciated by our team. If you would like to say thank you to a member of staff who has made a difference to your child, you can send a free National Thank a Teacher Day e-card via the National Thank a Teacher Day website: https://thankateacher.co.uk
To all of our wonderful staff at KAG and colleagues in KGA – thank you for your dedication, your care, your enthusiasm and your unwavering commitment to our children. You make a difference every single day.

A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who showed that they are every bit as competitive as our children by taking part in the Sports Day parent/carer races. Whether it was the egg and spoon race, the skipping race or the sprint, our brave volunteers stepped up to the challenge and thundered down the track to the cheers, laughter and encouragement of both children and adults alike. The atmosphere was fantastic, and it was wonderful to see everyone joining in the fun.
For some of our Year 6 families, this marked their final Gomer Sports Day. We are delighted that a few of them left with some very worthy victories and memories to treasure. For others, there is always next year and another chance to claim sporting glory!
Thank you for embracing the spirit of the day and helping to make Sports Day such a memorable event for our children. Your willingness to join in created smiles all around and showed our pupils that taking part, having fun and giving your best are what really matter.
Who will be our parent champions next year?

After being rescheduled twice due to the wonderfully unpredictable English weather, Sports Day finally arrived and it was well worth the wait! The afternoon was packed with a fantastic range of events, combining traditional favourites with some uniquely Gomer challenges. Children competed in the egg and spoon race, the ever-popular hole-in-a-cup water race, javelin, long jump, hammer throw, skipping race, speed bounce, hockey challenges and the fun run. There was something for everyone.
What impressed us most was not just the effort and determination shown by the children, but the way they supported and encouraged one another. Whether competing, cheering from the sidelines or helping their teammates, our children demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and team spirit.
The competition between the Houses was incredibly close. In the end, Red House were crowned champions, beating Blue House by just two points! Congratulations to all of our children for making it such an exciting contest. A special well done must go to our House Captains, who led their teams brilliantly throughout the day. They were particularly impressive as they proudly led their Houses into the sports arena for the relay races, creating a fantastic atmosphere and showcasing their leadership skills.
We would also like to thank our families for their patience and flexibility as we navigated the changes to the date. Despite the diary complications, we were delighted to welcome 236 adults to support the children. Your encouragement from the sidelines helped make the day even more special.
Thank you to everyone who played a part in making Sports Day such a success. Go Gomer!

Year 6 were very lucky to welcome Chartwells into school for an exciting and informative food workshop: Chickpeas Three Ways.
During the session, the children explored the important issue of food waste and discussed how we can reduce it by using ingredients in different and creative ways, rather than only using them in the ways we might usually expect. The focus then turned to chickpeas and the variety of healthy, tasty dishes that can be made from this simple ingredient.
Working in three groups, the children prepared hummus, protein balls and a chickpea salad. They learnt a range of practical skills along the way, from mashing ingredients and preparing food safely, to remembering not to use the whole basil stalk in a salad! They also took responsibility for cleaning up after themselves and discussed the importance of minimising waste wherever possible.
Once the dishes had been prepared, all of the children had the opportunity to taste each of the delicious foods made during the workshop. It was a fantastic hands-on experience, and the children learnt a great deal about healthy eating, food preparation and reducing food waste.
A huge thank you to Chartwells for providing such an excellent workshop for our Year 6 pupils.

Our Year 6 Service Children recently had the opportunity to attend the Gosport Community Hub at King’s Academy Brune Park. The Community Hub brings together Service Children and Service Families from local schools, providing a welcoming environment where they can meet others who share similar experiences and build new friendships.
The Hub offers valuable support as children prepare for the next stage of their education. For our pupils who will be moving on to King’s Academy Bay House in September, the visit was a super opportunity to meet other Service Children who will be joining the school. Making these connections ahead of transition can help children feel more confident and excited about the move to secondary school.
The children had a wonderful time, enjoying a range of activities and getting to know their peers from across the Gosport area. They particularly enjoyed meeting members of the King’s Group Academies Service Children Team, who work hard to support Service families throughout their educational journey. We are grateful to everyone involved in organising the event and helping our pupils feel so welcome. We know the friendships made during the visit will help make the transition to secondary school even smoother.

Last week, our School Choir treated both the children and staff at Gomer, parents their families. The choir is led by Mr Pilott, who also delivers our vocal tuition programme. His energy, passion and expertise help to bring out the very best in our young singers, and we are extremely grateful for all that he does. The children clearly enjoy every minute of choir and vocal lessons, and their performances were a wonderful celebration of their hard work and commitment throughout the year.
Singing is one of the most accessible and rewarding musical activities for children. Research shows that singing can improve confidence, memory, concentration and communication skills. It also promotes wellbeing, encourages teamwork and gives children a wonderful sense of achievement. Most importantly, singing is great fun!
The choir enjoy learning a wide variety of songs and performing together as part of a supportive and encouraging group. If your child enjoys singing and would like to join the choir, please do let us know. We are always delighted to welcome new members who are keen to give it a try.

On Thursday 4 June, two of our Service Children had the wonderful honour of representing our school at HMS Sultan in Gosport during a very special occasion attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, The Princess Royal.
The visit marked the 70th Anniversary Ceremonial Divisions at HMS Sultan, a significant milestone for the Royal Navy training establishment, which has spent seven decades training the engineers and technicians who support and maintain the Royal Navy’s ships, submarines and aircraft.
Ceremonial Divisions are an important Royal Navy tradition. During a Divisions parade, sailors and trainees gather on parade in their uniforms for inspection by senior officers and distinguished guests. The ceremony celebrates achievement, discipline, teamwork and pride in service, while also recognising the dedication of those training for careers in the Royal Navy.
As part of today’s anniversary celebrations, Princess Anne took the salute during the Lord High Admiral’s Divisions, a prestigious event which formed the centrepiece of the celebrations. Her attendance highlighted the importance of HMS Sultan’s contribution to the Royal Navy over the past 70 years and recognised the generations of personnel who have trained there.
Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were proud to represent both our school and the wider Service community. Opportunities such as this help our children gain a deeper understanding of the military heritage and traditions that are such an important part of life for many Service families.
We are incredibly grateful to Mrs Whiting for organising this memorable opportunity. As a former WREN (Women’s Royal Naval Service member), Mrs Whiting’s knowledge, connections and enthusiasm helped make this special experience possible for our children. With thanks to Miss Hall for organising our children so well.
It was a memorable morning and a great privilege for our pupils to be part of such a historic occasion. We were delighted they joined friends from our sister school KA Rowner.
