"An immensely moving account of one soul preparing to make the great transition..."

This autumn, join us for an interactive online reading group on Plato’s Phaedo. Together, we will walk alongside Socrates in his final hours as he reflects on the soul, the unseen world, and what it means to live—and depart—with wisdom.

No background in philosophy is necessary, just an open mind and a willingness to reflect. A free PDF will be provided to all participants.

Have you ever felt that ancient myths are trying to say something important—but you’re not quite sure how to hear it?

The Iliad is one of the great founding stories of Western civilisation. Yet it is often read simply as a tale of war.

In this course, you’ll explore the epic with fresh eyes. The story becomes a gateway to understanding how myth expresses deeper psychological and spiritual realities.

As the drama between Achilles, Agamemnon, and the Trojans unfolds, you may begin to see how the language of myth reveals patterns that still shape human experience today.

How often do we get dazzled by the outer appearances of things—by shapes, colours, opinions, and sensory details—that we lose touch with the deeper essence underneath?

In 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝘄𝗼 of our series, The One and the Many, we turn to ancient philosophers Proclus and Porphyry to explore how we can "peel away" the outer garments of daily distraction.

By looking beyond surface appearances, we can enjoy the beauty of the world without losing sight of the eternal principles—like Goodness, Truth, and Unity—that give it meaning.

What we explore in Part Two:

• How to move from sensory overload to "second sight"
• What Porphyry teaches us about pure, unwearied essences
• The quiet ways universal Ideas govern our everyday perception

Read Part Two here: https://integralwisdom.org/blog/looking-beyond-appearances/

(Stay tuned for Part Three, where we’ll share a practical tool for finding unity—plus an invitation to an upcoming online reading group!)

"Art is not only something we create — it is also a way of seeing, connecting and awakening."

In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition sand mandalas are ritually swept away, after their careful creation, and the sand returned to a river or stream. This reminds us that everything is ‘impermanent’ and awakens us to the wisdom of acceptance, non-attachment and letting go.

Witnessing this sacred destruction during our Summer School at Fintry was a deeply moving experience.

The workshop was facilitated by Daniel Bowler & Holly Foskett-Barnes.

How does watching this process make you feel? Let us know in the comments below.

The Fintry Trust has just held another Summer School to remember – on the theme of ‘𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨’ – hosted by Sally & Jean-Paul Jeanrenaud, and Murray Morison, 23-26 July 2026.

Together we explored the nature of inspiration, the creative process, and the idea of Integral Art — arts that can be practical, expressive, healing, intellectual and spiritual.

Highlights included co-creating a nature-mandala in the gardens, as well as a stunning sand-mandala facilitated by artists Daniel Bowler and Holly Foskett-Barnes, through its phases of sacred creation and destruction.

We had the privilege of talking to contemporary artist Freya Purdue about her paintings and her artistic journey. We also enjoyed an evening of music and poetry with Jessica Webster and Julia Cousins, and had a memorable visit to the beautiful Watt's Chapel in Compton.

Above all, it was the people who made the event so special. Thank you to everyone who came with such openness, curiosity and generosity of spirit. It was a joy to learn, create, and reflect together.

A special thanks to Florence Harry for the daily yoga sessions, to Andrew Pena for volunteering, and to the Fintry staff for such wonderful homemade food, and beautiful gardens.

We leave inspired by a sense of community, and by the reminder that art is not only something we create — it is also a way of seeing, connecting and awakening.

Thank you to everyone who made this Summer School such a memorable experience.

We look forward to welcoming you to Fintry again soon.

Do you ever feel like you’re staring at so many trees that you’ve completely lost sight of the wood? 🌲👁️

In a world full of endless choices, sensory overload, and constant distractions—what Buddhists call the "monkey mind"—it’s easy for our attention to become fragmented.

In part one of our new three-part series, The One and the Many, we explore:

✨ Ancient philosophical wisdom on overcoming distraction
🦅 What the myth of the Stymphalian Birds teaches us about noisy thoughts
✨ How to enjoy the world’s variety without losing our inner sense of unity

If you’ve been looking for a quiet moment of reflection and a deeper perspective on daily life, this one is for you.

Interested in exploring these ideas alongside others? Look out for Part Three, where we’ll share an invitation to an upcoming online reading group on Plato’s Phaedo.
