Hi all,

I wanted to introduce myself and give some information about my background. My name is Katie Lawton and I live in Glossop with my partner Joe and my son Theo.

I graduated in 2016 and hold a 2.1 degree in law from the University of Manchester (the same year I had my son). After that, I worked in a bookies while my son was very little. Realising my love for children, I applied to do my initial teacher training with North Manchester ITT and a PGCE with Manchester Metropolitan University.

In 2019, I got my first job as a teacher in a lovely school in Droylsden. Whilst at this school, I taught over different year groups, was the subject lead for history and geography, mentored student and apprentice teachers, workplace representative for our union and also a mental health first aider. I also have plentiful experience of supporting children with special educational needs.

In February 2025, I completed my National Professional Qualification in Leading Teaching (NPQLT) and also made the difficult decision to leave the school in Droylsden. After a short stint as a carer for looked after children, I missed the classroom environment and teaching so I am now a working as a supply teacher and tutor.
