“Mummy, why are your knickers so big?!”

Just one of the 7,569 questions that my 7 year old daughter asks me on a daily basis...

And it was Eden’s strangely intuitive - and highly amusing questions - that led me to record today’s podcast episode. (You’re gonna have to listen to find out what the others were I’m afraid!)

It's all about how the most boring page on your website might actually be one of the most useful.

Yep. FAQs.

Not sexy, I know. Nobody’s ever said, “Ooooh Joanne, wait until you see my FAQ section.”

BUT - they’re becoming bloody important!

Because when someone asks Google or AI a question about something you do, it needs to find a clear, useful answer somewhere.

And if your website is full of genuinely helpful answers to the exact questions your customers are asking? Well - you're sexy as hell baby!

In this week’s podcast episode, I’m talking about why FAQs are SO useful for getting your business found online, how they help Google and AI understand what the hell you actually do and how to work out which questions you should be answering.

A little Sunday night diary admin - and 2026 is disappearing fast!

I’ve had a few messages recently about websites and one-off bits of visibility help, so thought I’d pop this here before anyone leaves it until the last minute.

My diary for website builds is now fully booked for the rest of 2026, so any new websites are booking from January 2027.

I’ve also only got a handful of one-off days left across November + December for things like SEO, Google Business Profile help, content, website tweaks, strategy and general '"Joanne, can you sort this out for me?!” kinda jobs 🤣

If you’re one of my regular ongoing clients, don’t panic - I already have your time accounted for.

But if there’s something you’ve been meaning to book in before Christmas and haven’t actually booked it yet, this is me giving you a friendly nudge to shout now and we can get you in the old diary!

The podcast is BACK!!! 🎙️

I really missed recording it over the summer but the truth is - I didn't even have time to p*e on my own in 6 weeks - let alone record a podcast episode.

So we're back with a new episode every fortnight, starting with this banger!

FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT: Sometimes You’ve Just Got to Wing It.

This episode was inspired by my friend who started a gardening business during Covid. Fab idea, very entrepreneurial, just one tiny issue:

She knew f**k all about gardening. 😂

But did that stop her?! Absolutely not!!

She got herself some gardening gear, told people she was a gardener and off she went 🤣

Because as ridiculous as the gardening story is, there's actually a bloody good business lesson in it.

Sometimes you've got to back yourself BEFORE you feel confident.

So that's what this week's episode is about. The GOOD kind of faking it till you make it. Confidence, selling yourself, winging it, figuring s**t out as you go and why maybe we could all do with borrowing a tiny bit of my friend's completely unjustified gardening confidence.

Turns out, websites have become my favourite bit of the job.

Which is funny, because I distinctly remember saying to Dave approximately 18 months ago that I definitely DID NOT want to become a website designer.😂

BUT - the more websites I've worked on, the more I've realised they bring together pretty much EVERYTHING I'm good at and enjoy doing.

I get to be nosy and properly get under the skin of a business, working out what makes it different. I like researching what their customers are actually searching for. I'm good and figuring out what needs to go where and why. I LOVE writing the the words and making sure every inch of their content is optimised for the Google Gods.

It's not just making a pretty website but actually taking the time to work out what it actually needs to SAY, who it needs to speak to, how people are going to find it and what we want them to do when they get there.

This one on my laptop is a little sneak p*ek of the new Urbanberry Recruitment website I've been working on recently. And it's been such a good one to build because it was ALL about showing their personality - the one thing that makes these two clever women different from all the other recruitment companies out there. I've put my heart and soul into it and can't wait to get it launched for them very soon!

SO! Apparently I'm a website person now. Who knew? 😂

And I've got a feeling you'll be seeing quite a lot more of them around here!

If you’ve followed me for a while, you might be wondering what on earth I actually do these days.

Fair question, to be honest. 😂

My business has changed quite a bit over the years. I’ve done everything from social media and PR to mentoring, newsletters, launches, workshops - you name it, I've done it!

But somewhere along the way, I realised the bit I’m REALLY good at (and genuinely love doing) is helping brilliant small businesses get found.

So these days, most of my work falls into four camps:

👊 Website Design - Squarespace websites that don't just look good, but are researched properly, structured correctly, written to sound like YOU - and are SEO'd up to the eyeballs so you have the BEST chance of being found online.

👊 Google Visibility & SEO - helping Google understand who you are, what you do and where you do it, so the right people can actually find you.

👊 AI Visibility - because apparently getting found on Google wasn’t enough to think about and now we need ChatGPT to know you exist too.

👊 Marketing & Visibility Support - for small business owners who know they should PROBABLY be doing something to market themselves but would quite like someone else to work out what that something is...

One thing to know about Her Handmade Hustle: I’m not an agency. There isn't a team hiding behind this account. It’s me, my laptop and 16 years experience in the trenches, figuring out what actually works when you’re running a small business.

In a nutshell - I help small businesses get FOUND. Because you're all too damn good at what you do not to be seen!!

Yay I’ve managed to edit and upload a podcast episode during the summer holidays!!

I actually recorded this one right at the START of the 6 weeks holidays - and right AFTER a massive panic attack I had in the middle of a coffee shop at the thought of how the hell I was going to juggle work and childcare.

And it's all about this feeling of being rushed. We're all trying to get SO much done in so little time - it's impossible. So why are we doing it to ourselves?! And how do we manage this panicky feeling of not getting everything ticked off our to-do list - especially during the summer holidays when you're lucky if you get to have a wee alone, let alone do 8 hours of work?

The episode starts with an account of the crazy day that sent me spiralling into the aforementioned panic attack - and it involves a floor fitter, the menopause clinic and ANOTHER blocked toilet. (seriously, wtf is wrong with my family?!)
