A humanist ceremony is a type of celebration that is non-religious and focuses on the human experience, personal stories, and the values and beliefs of the individuals involved.
These ceremonies can include weddings, funerals, naming ceremonies, and other significant life events. The primary aim is to create a meaningful and personalised experience that reflects the unique personalities, relationships, and values of those participating.

There are different types of Celebrant.
Some are Interfaith and include religious elements within a wedding, funeral or baby naming ceremony. Then there are Humanist Celebrants who follow a secular life stance, conducting ceremonies without religion.
A Humanist ceremony focuses on the love story of a couple getting married, the life of a loved one who has passed away or the journey of a little one being welcomed into the world.
There are also independent celebrants, some are licensed and others will conduct the non legal part of a wedding ceremony only. Celebrants can conduct legal marriages in Scotland and Northern Ireland provided they are authorised to do so. In England and Wales Celebrants cannot conduct legal marriages currently.
Once trained with UKCAPSA, you can choose what route you would like to go down. The training teaches you the values and the outlook of Humanism. So you are ready if becoming a Humanist Celebrant is for you. Our training also ensures that you understand everything required to conduct a legal marriage in Scotland should you wish to.
If you would like to find out more, get in touch and we will talk you through it all.

The best way to learn about training to become a professional celebrant is to hear from those who already have!
We start off with the charming Chris Alexander. After qualifying Chris now conducts Weddings, Civil Partnerships, Vow Renewals, Baby Naming & Funeral Ceremonies throughout Scotland.
As an actor Chris found himself travelling the world meeting lots of different people. A passion for folk, hearing their stories and the connections he made, long or short really inspired him.
"It was a natural flow for me to use my skills as an actor and become a celebrant. I love working with people. To continue meeting new folk, hearing stories and sharing those stories with the people they love the most, gives me a new bubble of joy!"

π Public Speaking is a key part of the job of a Celebrant. The ability to project your voice, control your breathing, deliver an engaging ceremony whilst making eye contact with your audience - are all things that you will learn in Unit 3 of the UKCAPSA Celebrant and Public Speaking Diploma.
You donβt need to have previous experience; we will get you there from a standing start, all you need to have, is confidence in yourself.
Some of our candidates have experienced public speaking in their lives, through work, family gatherings or through reading at ceremonies. However, every candidate learns specifically how to conduct a ceremony. It really is quite different.
The course material takes you through experience led and tried and tested techniques to teach you how to deliver the perfect ceremony.
